The Jews in Shanghai Collection contains an assortment of original and photocopied documentation of Jews in Shanghai during the 1930s and 1940s. In addition it includes an abundance of personal narratives, newspaper clippings and scholarly articles on this subject as well as on the origins of the Jewish Community in Shanghai.

This collection centers on the literary work of the physician Julius Walter Levi. He was born in Munich in 1891. In 1937 he immigrated with his family to New York, where he opened his own practice. In addition to his medical career, Julius Walter Levi wrote prolifically poetry and novels as well as plays, essays and short stories. Another section of the collection contains the drafts and the actual manuscript of his memoirs.

This collection includes various material concerning the Jewish Community in Leipzig. It contains administrative files and correspondence from the Third Reich as well as lists of deportations. It also contains speeches and essays about Jewish life in Leipzig.

The Leo Baeck Family Collection documents the lives and influential events of members of the Baeck and Berlak families, specifically Leo Baeck, Ruth and Hermann Berlak, and Marianne and A. Stanley Dreyfus. Most prominent is the documentation on Leo Baeck's life; other salient themes include the World War I experience of Hermann Berlak and the Dreyfuses' involvement in preserving the memory of Leo Baeck's life and teachings. The collection includes extensive correspondence; a large accumulation of articles, especially those focused on Leo Baeck; a smaller amount of personal papers, manuscripts, drafts and notes; and a few photographs and slides.

This collection consists primarily of research material for Leon Kane’s book, Robert Danneberg, ein pragmatischer Idealist (1980). There are correspondence, writings and articles concerning the political work and arrest of the Austrian social democrat Robert Danneberg (1885-1942). The actual manuscript of Robert Danneberg, ein pragmatischer Idealist is included as well as reviews and some personal documents about Leon Kane.

This collection contains the papers of the writer Margarete Kollisch. The main subject of the collection is her life and writing, although material concerning other members of the family are also present. The collection consists of typescripts and manuscripts, correspondence, official documents, articles and clippings, photographs, audiocassettes, and notes.

This collection contains Marvin Lowenthal's correspondence, journals, diaries, documents, photographs, memorabilia, and printed materials relating to his life, writings, Zionist activities, and relief work on behalf of German Jewry. Includes material on his youth, school work, and college years, as well as autobiographical writings and family correspondence containing information on Horace Kallen and early 20th century Zionist activities. Of particular note is his later correspondence with Jacob Billikopf, Jerome Frank, Horace M. Kallen, Elmer Rice, Eugene C. Taylor, and Stephen S. Wise.

The collection of Max Hamburger (1897-1970) documents his scholarship on the relationship between ancient philosophy and modern jurisprudence. It also shows the efforts of an independent émigré scholar to promote himself and his work to universities, publishers, granting agencies, and other scholars. There is very little personal material in this collection. The main document types are correspondence, manuscripts, typescripts, and research notes.

The Mendheim Family Collection holds papers of the family of Florence Mendheim. Most of the collection consists of correspondence, including letters of family members. Other materials include unpublished typescripts as well as a few personal papers and books.

The Paul Schrag Collection contains his personal correspondence, manuscripts, poems and speeches.

The Perlmann Family Collection consists of papers of members of the Perlmann and related families, including the Spiero and Jolowicz families. It includes genealogy and biographies of these families and also of members of the related Lewald and Simson families. Some material on the city of Königsberg is also present. The collection consists of correspondence, genealogical research, family trees, biographies, articles, newspaper clippings, official documents, a few postcards and photographs, a memorial book and a few pamphlets.

Contains the minutes of the Civic Committee of the Richman Literary Society of the University Settlement for Nov. 1914 and Feb. 1915, and other material relating to the Richman Literary Society, the University of Settlement and published yearbooks of the University Settlement for the years 1899-1906.

Robert Raphael Geis (1906-1972) was a rabbi, educator, and Jewish theologian. He identified strongly with German liberal Judaism, but his keen interest in Jewish studies brought him close to leaders of conservative Judaism as well. Before the Second World War Robert Raphael Geis worked as a rabbi for the youth and Religion teacher in Munich and Mannheim, and as a rabbi in Kassel, Germany. After the war he served as a rabbi in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Germany. In the early 1960s, Raphael Robert Geis became engaged in the dialog of Protestant and Jewish theologians. The Robert Raphael Geis collection consists mainly of correspondence and writings. There are only a few personal documents. The writings consist of newspaper articles, reviews of books on Jewish topics and sermons for major Jewish holidays. The correspondence has two main foci: the periods before and after the Second World War. The first period is characterized by letters written by various leading figures of Jewish communities in Germany and is concerned with employment opportunities for young rabbis, as well as insights into inner workings of congregations. A large amount of letters from this period also come from Robert Raphael Geis' students. The correspondence written after the war centers on theological matters and the workings of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der "Juden und Christen" (Working Group of "Jews and Christians").

The Rose Auslaender Manuscript Collection centers on drafts of the poet's poems, which comprise the core of this collection. In addition to the drafts of her writing, the collection also contains a small amount of publishing correspondence, some lists of her work and a copy of a short speech.

The Ruth R. Dresner Collection comprises research material and writings about the well-known Jewish social worker Bertha Pappenheim. It includes copies of articles, offprints and clippings on her in addition to a dissertation on her work and some correspondence concerning the accumulation of research on her life and work. Material on the German stamp issued in her honor and some photographs are also present.

Papers of Sanford A. Gradinger cover the period from mid-1980’s to mid-1990’s and document the activities of the Rochester, NY businessman on behalf of Soviet Jews, his involvement with the Andrei Sakharov International Committee and his travels to Washington D. C., Soviet Union and Former Soviet Union. Materials include photographs, videocassette, CDrs, correspondence, clippings, ephemera and travel memorabilia..

Contains the minute book (May-December 1898) and other material of the Ladies' Patriotic Relief Society of Newark, N.J., organized to assist needy families during the Spanish-American War; a diary of the War Period, and mimeographed copies of the Kussy family genealogy and the history of Miriam Auxiliary of Oheb Shalom Congregation in Newark from 1880-1945.

This collection contains the papers of members of the Siegfried Jacoby family, depicting the family's private lives as well as their literary work. Most prominent among the papers here are many unpublished manuscripts, family correspondence, and Siegfried Jacoby's herbarium. There is also personal correspondence with others, some professional correspondence, official and personal papers, newspaper clippings, and a few notebooks and family photographs.

The bulk of this collection consists of typescripts, research articles and notes as well as newspaper articles which the researcher and historian Toni Oelsner wrote on the subject of Jews in medieval Germany. Her research deals with anti-Judaic and anti-Semitic stereotypes, as they appeared in the Christian culture of southern Germany. In particular Oelsner analyzed economic processes and their impact on and creating of anti-Semitic harassment and persecution against Jewish communities in southern Germany. Research works that drew public attention relate to anti-Judaic violent persecutions in Endingen in the 1460s.

The collection contains typescripts by Walther Rothschild, a publisher, scholar and author. The writing includes journals, drafts of an unpublished novel, and a travel report.
