Photographs

The bulk of the Emil Carl Grossmann Collection is comprised of albums of photographs taken by Grossmann during his travels in Europe, mostly throughout his native Austria, and the United States from the early 1920s through early 1940s. A significant portion of one album documents trips to various Austrian spa towns, as well as tours through the states of Burgenland and Carinthia during summers and holidays. Another noteworthy portion of the album deals with Grossmann’s extended visits to the United States, particularly New York City, in 1929 and 1937. During these trips, he photographed New York’s landmarks, neighborhoods, parks, and major streets. A second photograph album is dedicated exclusively to photographs Emil Carl Grossmann took at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. In addition to Grossmann’s albums of photography, a third album holds a collection of theater programs for plays, musicals, and operas he attended from 1922 to 1938, mostly at various theaters in Vienna.

This collection consists of papers of the family of Emil Mosbacher. Prominent are the personal papers and correspondence of Emil and Stephen Sigmund Mosbacher. In addition, the collection holds a number of family photographs and photo albums as well as genealogical information on members of the related Flack and other families.

The Ennis Brandenburger Family Collection documents the Brandenburger genealogy as well as the family business they established in Wil, Switzerland. Information on the history of the Jewish Community in Gailingen, Germany is also present. The collection includes various official and citizenship certificates, family trees and narratives on the family history, contracts relating to marriage or the transfer of property, photographs and a newspaper clipping.

Bulk dates for Series III are 1927-1968.

The Photographs and Ephemera series contains the photographs that did not logically fall into any of the folders in Series I or II; other photographs may be found in Series I and II .

Folder 2/15 contains loose photographs, mostly identified, both before and after World War II. It includes members of Stein and Marcus families, and photographs of the exterior of the Stein’s home in London, 1939-1940. Pictured in color are photographs of the exterior of the Stein’s apartment while living in London, 1939-1940.

Folder 2/16 contains photographs that were removed from a binder album in their existing order within the binder sleeves. There are photographs of family members in Germany before WWII labeled “1939”; of the Stein family home interior before leaving Berlin in 1939; and of Stein family visits to Germany after the war of exteriors of former homes and cemeteries where family is buried. Folder 2/17 consists of a leather-bound photo album dated 1927-1928, in French, by an unknown creator.

Folder 2/18 holds stamps and first day covers, predominantly in Hebrew.

This collection consists of writings by and about the psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, novelist, and sculptor Eric and his wife Maria Mosse, a writer. The couple lived in Berlin before immigrating to the United States in 1933. Beyond writings, a sketch and a small photo album are also included.

This collection documents the family of Eric and Thea Midas of Fürth, Germany and Niagara Falls, New York. It includes correspondence, vital documents, photographs and photo albums, as well as genealogical materials. Extensive information about the Jews of Fürth is found in this collection.

The Eric Breindel Papers (1955-1998) provides a glimpse into the life and untimely passing of New York Post editor and columnist Eric Breindel. The bulk of this collection documents the many awards and honors he received for his contributions to the Jewish community, and the community at large. The collection also includes many photographs of Breindel with friends, colleagues, and notable individuals. Some samples of his writing and research can also be found in the collection. Other interesting material documents the grief of his early death and the sentiments expressed by many about his loss.

The Eric Lind collection documents his involvement with numismatics and philately and his interests in the Holocaust and the fate of the Jews during World War II. Materials collected here cover topics such as Anti-Semitism, Holocaust, Nazis and Neo-Nazis, forgeries during WW II, stamps and currency, and the era of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The collection consists of printed materials, artifacts, paper money and coins, stamps, post cards, envelopes, correspondence, documents, and photographs.

The Eric Zielenziger Collection includes materials dealing with various members of the Zielenziger family. The bulk of the collection consists of Ruth Zielenziger’s teaching materials. Materials dealing with other members of the family include vital and school documents, certificates, financial documents, some family correspondence, genealogical tables, and a large number of Kurt Zielenziger’s manuscripts.

The collection consists of the correspondence, personal documents and family photos of Erica Furnberg, her mother, and daughter. A large part of the correspondence deals with Erica's attempts to help her sister Magda to emigrate from France to the USA.

The collection is composed of personal documents of Erich Ahrens and various manuscripts and translations.

The collection comprises two groups of photographs, the first being family photographs and the second photographs from Erich Simon's time spent on the Eastern front in World War I.

The collection contains cards and pieces of notepaper with dedications by Erich Wolfgang Korngold to various individuals. The dedications are acompanied by Erich Wolfgang Korngold's signature and hand drawn excerpts from several of his compositions. One paper also includes the signatures of George Szell, Richard Tauber, and Willi Strecker. The handwritten cover page and first page of the overture to Korngold's one-act opera Violanta, with a dedication to Prince Friedrich Leopold, is also included.

This collection documents the life and work of the Erna and Werner Blade family and details 20th century Jewish life in Wuerzburg, Nuremberg and in exile. It consists mainly of writings; genealogical documents; education, legal and military documents; photographs and postcards.

This collection holds personal and official documents, correspondence, genealogical information, biographical manuscripts and photographs related to the Feith, Lyon and Katz families. Most of the documents pertain to Erna Bonette, Fred Gustav and their son Henry Arthur Katz. The collection focuses on their lives in Germany and the United States as well as their emigration via Luxemburg and Portugal. It also holds materials pertaining to members of the extended Katz and Lyon families and their ancestors, including the Feith family. Also included is material about a Mikveh from the 15th century in Siegburg, Germany.

The Erna Katzenell collection consists of documents about Katzenell's life in hiding during the Second World War and her ultimate rescue. Amongst others, it includes documents about her rescuers, clippings, correspondence, photographs, and transcripts of interviews.

The Erna Maier Family Collection documents the life and the education of Erna Maier. The collection primarily consists of letters written to Erna Maier by her parents. The correspondence between Erna, Laura and Heinrich Maier shows their close relationship. Postcards, daily calendars, poetry and a recipe collection can be found in the collection as well. Other documents includes official documents of Erna Maier and her family, as well as school materials, photos and notes.

The collection contains documentation of the Erna Weingold Kleinermann family, including vital records, identity cards and passports, school certificates, and correspondence.

The collection contains diaries and other private and business related documents of the businessman Ernest A. Grunsfeld and his family, 1894-1927.

Next to a short genealogical abstract, folder 1 contains two handwritten, German letters (one of them in Hebrew script) from Salman Ben M. Warburg (1789) and F.S. Warburg (1827), respectively.

This collection documents the life of the violinist Ernest Drucker, with a larger focus on his professional work in various orchestras and ensembles. The bulk of the collection consists of a large body of correspondence of friends and colleagues, most of them other musicians. Other papers in the collection include official documents, newspaper clippings of reviews and concert announcements, programs for performances, a few copies of photographs and some sketches.

Ernest Goodman (born Ernst Gutmann) was a button and accessories salesman who immigrated to the United States in 1936. The collection contains correspondence and official papers belonging to him and his second wife, Carole Goodman née Vad. The collection documents Ernest’s unsuccessful attempts to bring his parents to the United States between 1936-1941 and his and Carole’s applications for restitution for themselves and their parents. A large collection of family photographs, a photo album, and a family tree are also part of the collection.

This collection contains the papers of Ernest W. Michel, Holocaust Survivor Journalist and public speaker,including clippings of newspaper articles written by and about Michel, correspondence between Michel and many important Jewish and political figures and autograph files, which Michel collected. Many of these files concern Michel’s Holocaust experiences, speaking engagements, the World Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, and Michel’s work with the United Jewish Appeal.

The bulk of the collection consists of materials for a critical edition of a prayer book for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, "Mahzor Ashkenaz" from the late 1960s. Also included are correspondence with the Leo Baeck Institute, 1956-1972; correspondence with Max Gruenewald, 1958-1972; as well as accompanying documents.

This collection contains the writings and some personal documents of literature professor and scholar Ernst J. Schlochauer. The collection also contains some materials pertaining to his in-law Ernst Warschauer and his family.

Correspondence on various topics, including emigration to the United States and Cuba; relocation in academic jobs; denazification and conditions in Germany after the war; and Kantorowicz's scholarship. Unpublished manuscripts, and offprints of articles and reviews by Kantorowicz, largely on medieval cultural history; a brief biography of him by Ralph Giesey. The collection contains three circumcision registers (Mohelbuecher) with some entries from Prague, 1816 and Baiersdorf, 1819 and mostly from Munich, 1826-1885. In addition there is a ‘Memorbuch’ from Fuerth, Bavaria.

This collection contains correspondence and other documents relating to Ernst L. Rosenthal (1922- ) and his parents Bernhard Rosenthal (1882-1947), a leather merchant, and Margarethe née Jacobson (1896-1976). Most of the material is from the time period around World War Two, and includes correspondence among Ernst, living in England, his parents in New York, and their friends and family all over the world.
