This is a collection of three essays by Dr. Peter Schrag about his family, documenting in selected details his family's transition from being refugees from Nazi Germany to being Americans.

This collection contains mainly contest submissions from the 1945-1946 YIVO essay contest for Jewish soldiers and veterans of World War II as well as additional materials sent in by the contestants and administrative information about the contest compiled by YIVO staff members.

Two original German manuscripts and their English translations, describing the author’s escape from Nazi Germany (written in 1942) and her subsequent life underground (written in the 1960s).

This collection contains material of the Memorial Committee for Jewish Victims of Nazism from Worms, such as the professional and personal correspondence of Gerhard Spies, who was the Committee's principal. This collection contains documents on the history of the Berolzheimer family, as well as family trees of the Berolzheimers and related families.

The E. Michael Bluestone Collection contains primarily the professional writings and correspondence of Michael Bluestone--one of the foremost authorities in the field of medical care and hospital administration--and his associates. Most of the materials in this collection are in bound volumes and scrapbooks arranged by E. Michael Bluestone.

This collection consists of various materials pertaining to the Michael family in particular to Jacob Joseph Michael's (1882- ) efforts to write a family history covering the years 1600 to 1951.

The collection holds various documents pertaining to the Michelsohn family, originally from the town of Hausberge (Minden, Westphalia). These include vital records, a genealogical table, as well as clippings and publications.

The Milch Family, Breslau Collection consists of documents pertaining to the Milch, Kauffmann and Silbergleit families, including official documents, family trees, correspondence, unpublished manuscripts and newspaper clippings. The bulk of the collection consists of the papers of the literary historian Werner Milch.

The Milton Steinberg (1903-1950) Papers documents the personal and intellectual life of the American author, philosopher, rabbi, teacher, and theologian. The collection contains correspondence, writings, photographs, audio recordings, and memorabilia. In addition to numerous articles, he authored several books including, The Making of the Modern Jew (1934), As A Driven Leaf (1939), A Partisan Guide to the Jewish Problem (1945), Basic Judaism (1947), A Believing Jew (1951), Anatomy of Faith (1960), and A Prophet’s Wife (2010). In a professional career that lasted a little over twenty years, he served as rabbi at three synagogues, primarily at the Park Avenue Synagogue. In addition, he was active in the community at large, and worked with many Jewish community and civic organizations. As a disciple of Mordecai Kaplan, he and others helped to establish the Reconstructionist movement of American Jewry.

The collection contains manuscripts, clippings, and correspondence pertaining to the poet Mimi Grossberg. Also included are various materials that have been collected by Mimi Grossberg, pertaining to her husband, Norbert Grossberg; her brother, Julius Buchwald; as well as to the writers Ernest Herzog, Erich Juhn and Robert Enoch.

The Moos-Moore Family Collection includes materials pertaining to the history of the Moos-Moore family and other closely associated families. The bulk of the collection consists of materials comprising the unpublished book Erinnerungen eines Konstanzer by Samuel Moos. Materials for Moos’ unpublished book include family correspondence and correspondence with other researchers and archives, photographs, original family documents, manuscripts (drafts), clippings, genealogical charts and family trees. Materials collected here are predominantly original documents.

The Morawetz-Glaser Family Collection documents these two Czech families, and in particular the notable events in the lives of the industrialist and philanthropist Richard Morawetz and his wife Frida (née Glaser) and of their children. The collection includes extensive family correspondence; family writings including diaries, memoirs, and poems; photographs and photo albums; family trees and genealogical research correspondence; newspaper clippings and articles; and official documents and other papers.

This collection contains personal and professional material by and about historian and rabbi Moritz Guedemann. Personal materials relating to him and his family include correspondence and educational and official documents. Professional materials include correspondence, writings, and other related papers.

Sermons (over six hundred), 1860-1918, organized chronologically and given by Guedemann on Sabbaths, holidays, and other occasions, including confirmations, weddings, funerals, and the Kaiser's birthday

The collection contains correspondence (original autographs and photocopies), clippings and other materials pertaining to the philosopher Moritz Lazarus.

This collection contains manuscripts and clippings of writings by Werner, correspondence, programs of the Freies Jüdisches Lehrhaus and various other materials.

Handwritten mortgage indenture of the Jew Loew (Levi) and his wife Haya of Marckelsheim (today Markelsheim in Bad Mergentheim), Franconia, in favor of Johann Theobald Falkner, November 11, 1659. Also included are an appraisal and a typed translation of the document.

The collection contains various vital documents, records, and correspondence relating to the Mosevius and Bloch families.

The collection contains typescripts of articles by Nahum N. Glatzer, mostly with his handwritten additions. Interspersed are newspaper clippings about Glatzer (including an obituary). Also included are printed and typed pages, listing archival holdings in the Glatzer estate.

The bulk of the collection holds manuscripts, correspondence and clippings pertaining to the work of the industrialist Nathan Eidinger in achieving emancipation for Romanian Jews after World War One. Also included are documents related to his and his family’s plight in Switzerland and France during World War Two.

The collection contains correspondence, business documents, marriage contracts, and other manuscript material from members of the Nathan family.

This collection consists of the papers of Nathan Perlmutter, a lawyer, lecturer, author, political activist, and a long-time leader of the American Jewish community. It contains certificates, newspaper clippings, correspondence — including numerous condolence cards and letters sent to his family after his death — manuscripts and drafts of Perlmutter’s writings, obituaries, printed materials, programs, and subject files relating to topics he was interested in and that he wrote about.

From its inception in 1961, the National Foundation for Jewish Culture (later known as the Foundation for Jewish Culture) supported Jewish scholarship, art, and community services. The collection primarily covers the period between 1959, when the original study proposing the creation of the NFJC was conducted by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds (CJFWF) and 2015, when the Foundation ceased operations. The materials document organization’s support for Jewish scholarship, art, culture, and its work in strengthening the relationships between cultural institutions and local Jewish communities. The collection also documents the organization’s shift in the 1980s from scholarship to more involvement in Jewish arts and culture.

This is a constructed collection of materials on National Socialism in Germany made from several individual items and smaller collections pulled together over more than two decades. The bulk of the collection stems from 1933-1945. Materials include clippings, correspondence, government and police records, memoranda, reports, minutes, awards, personal identification papers, transcripts of speeches and a radio broadcast, Jewish stars, songs, poems, photographs, manuscripts, teaching materials, and ephemera.

This collection contains material relating to Norman Salit's activities with various organizations, including the Synagogue Council of America, the Rabbinical Assembly of America, the Wartime Emergency Commission for Conservative Judaism, the Boy Scouts of America, the Jewish Education Committee, the American Child Guidance Foundation, Religion in American Life, the Valley Forge Foundation, the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and the National Community Relations Advisory Council. There are also speeches, writings, sermons, items related to Sharit's legal work and Zionist activities, as well as some letters from Mordecai Kaplan.
