Correspondence

This collection contains correspondence, vital records, and other materials pertaining to restitution claims against Austria by Alicia Latzer on behalf of herself, her sister, Renata Latzer de Davids, aka Renée Latzer, and their parents Aladár and Elsa Latzer. Also included are Hungarian land ownership records and Spanish translations of various vital documents. It also contains a small amount of personal material, and genealogical materials about the descendents of Moses Latzer (1810-1905) and Albert Löwy (1836-1902).

The papers of Yiddish poet Aliza Greenblatt include copies of published and unpublished songs, poems and articles in both typed and handwritten manuscript form, newsletters, newspaper clippings, programs, scrapbook pages, and sheet music. There are also drafts and correspondence regarding her autobiography, including original letters sent to her from her husband Isidore when he visited Palestine in 1920, which form a portion of her autobiography. The collection also contains correspondence and legal documents from Greenblatt’s family, documents relating to her Zionist and charitable activities, and correspondence from other Yiddish writers and poets.

This collection consists of family and education documents, correspondence and genealogical materials, such as passports, report cards, burial plots and confirmation speeches.

This collection contains materials about Kurt Alten, his parents Emil Aron and Selma Aron-Alten, and the family of his sister, Elli Loewenthal. The bulk consists of restitution files for Kurt Alten and Selma Aron-Alten. Other materials include documents about Kurt Alten and his family. Most of these are of an administrative or official nature. There are also documents about Alten's extended family and some genealogical information about the Aron and Cohn families. There is little personal material in this collection.

The Altschuler and Weinberger Families Collection includes materials related to the history of these families prior to World War II as well as materials that shed light on the fate of various members of the Altschuler and Weinberger families during the Holocaust. The collection consists of correspondence, printed materials, documents, photographs, genealogical materials such as charts and family trees, stammbuch (most likely belonging to Helen Altschuler), and a handwritten cookbook.

Consists of correspondence from the formative years of the American Academy for Jewish Research from 1930 to 1936, fellows files and correspondence, ledgers and notebooks of membership dues and fellowship grants, minutes of the various committee meetings, Proceedings of the American Academy for Jewish Research, and photographs. Correspondents include Salo Baron, Isaac E. Barzilay, Robert Chazan, Louis Finkelstein, Louis Ginsberg, David Weiss-Halivni, Arthur Hyman, Saul Lieberman, Alexander Marx, Harry Orlinsky, and Harry Austrin Wolfson.

The collection contains correspondence, circular letters, reports, and lectures of the American Association of Former European Jurists. The materials are from the files of member Hans Teutsch.

This collection consists mainly of responses to a 1944 questionnaire sent by the American Federation of Jews from Central Europe to collect information on the communal property owned by Jewish communities in Germany prior to November 1938. Materials include completed questionnaires, correspondence, lists of reporting congregations, addresses, charts of data collected, and a final report. A small amount of materials related to other functions of the Federation is also included.

The American Federation of Jews from Central Europe Collection consists of the Federation’s office files. This includes professional correspondence, by-laws, materials related to meetings and lectures, newspaper clippings, photographs, meeting minutes, reports, speeches, drafts, financial records, legal documents and forms, materials related to immigration and naturalization, newsletters and circulars, membership records, personnel files, restitution materials, oral history transcripts, and items of various related organizations and synagogues. There are also some personal documents sent to the AFJCE by members of the public.

The records of the World’s Fair American-Israel Pavilion consists of materials relating to the American-Israel Pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair. The collection contains numerous pictures of the Pavilion, both while it was under construction and while it was in use during the Fair, as well as newspaper articles. The collection also contains a souvenir guide and press releases from the opening. The collection also details the disagreement between the American-Israeli World’s Fair Corporation and the Jordanian Pavilion regarding an inflammatory mural through correspondence, press releases, and articles from various sources.

The American Jewish Committee Records, Domestic and Geographic Files consists of materials created by executive offices, departments, local offices and chapters of the committee concerning a variety of matters, primarily Jewish civil and religious rights, integration, Jewish communal organizations and communal issues. However, materials found in this collection encompass other civil, racial, and religious minority groups as well. The records consist of briefs, conference proceedings, correspondence, legal documents, memoranda, minutes of meetings, printed materials, reports, resolutions, statements, studies, and surveys.

The collection documents American Jewish Committee’s efforts to combat all forms of discrimination against the Jews in the United States. Additionally, there are materials pertaining to AJC’s work regarding other minority groups in the United States. The collection offers researchers a unique chance to see how and what was done prior to the changes in public opinion and civic and legal laws. The American Jewish Committee Records, Subject Files consists of materials created by executive offices, departments, local offices and chapters of the Committee concerning a variety of matters; foremost Jewish civil and religious rights, immigration, and the Holocaust.

The collection contains background materials pertaining to the formation of the Conference, the election of delegates, financial records, memoranda, reports, and incomplete minutes of the Conference and its committees. It also includes extensive correspondence of the Administrative Secretary Jesse B. Calmenson, for March-December, 1943. The major portion of the collection consists of transcripts of the first through fourth sessions (1943-1947) of the Plenum and committees of the Conference. The published material in the collection includes the Bulletin of the activities and Digest of the press.

Contains the minutes, reports, and financial records of the Executive Committee for the American Jewish Historical Exhibition pertaining to the planning and execution of the Exhibition, as well as printed material and member correspondence, arranged alphabetically; also includes also a collection of printed material relating to the International Exposition at St. Louis, in 1904.

The records of the American Jewish Historical Society, the oldest national ethnic historical organization in the United States, include correspondence of officers and staff as well as inter-office memos, multiple versions of the constitution and by-laws of the society, meeting minutes of administrative branches and committees, membership and financial records, reports, exhibit materials, records relating to the society’s library and archival holdings, press releases and newspaper clippings, and publications and newsletters created by the society. There are also materials from various programs, such as meetings and conferences, tours, lectures, awards and dinners, films, and educational programs.

This collection is comprised of annual reports, budget reports, cables, calendars of events, catalogs, correspondence, minutes, memorandum, lists of Board of Director members, photographs of speakers, and a chart of the organization’s Geneva Headquarters. The documents in this collection describe the many and varied activities of the committee such as fundraising, relief distribution, general information concerning Russian farm colonies and immigration. Also included are cables of congratulation on JDC’s 33^rd anniversary. The collection also includes a bound volume of the financial, statistical and general data relating to the committee's activities since its inception which is located at the end of the Miscellaneous Collections.

Contains records on the formation, purpose, and activities of the American Jewish League for Israel, as reflected in organizational documents (including minutes), event literature, publications (including the AJLI newsletter, AJLI Bulletin, later called the AJLI News Bulletin and other titles), scholarship material, financial information, membership appeals, correspondence, media coverage, and photographs.

The AMIT records contain correspondence, periodicals, program, project, and subject files, films, reports, convention and chapter material and photographs that document the organizational activities, educational and humanitarian achievements in Israel, and fundraising efforts of this American Jewish Zionist volunteer organization from 1933-2005. The AMIT Records were donated to the American Jewish Historical Society in 2010. The donation, while incomplete, represents the most complete set of documents, to date, related to the projects and achievements of AMIT and its history as the American Mizrachi Women's Organization.

The collection contains various materials pertaining mostly to Andre (Andreas) Meyer.

This collection contains documents, photographs, and manuscripts by and about Anne Lisa (Anneliese) Rotenberg née Erlanger (1925, Ichenhausen, Germany - 2013, New York) and her family.

The collection contains original and photocopied documents about the Meinungen, Herzfeld and associated families as well as marriage contracts and divorce papers for Anna and Julius Woog.

The Anna Schneider Correspondence contains a large body of correspondence between 1939 and 1945, plus a small amount of genealogical information gathered in 1993.

The Anna Sten Collection documents the life of Anna Sten, a Psychotherapist in New York, who survived the Holocaust in a Romanian concentration camp. The collection contains personal and professional papers, as well as creative writings by Anna Sten. In the first folder most of the papers are correspondence and notebooks. The second folder contains essays about psychotherapy and child development and some short-stories written for the general public.

This collection contains the correspondence and personal papers of Anne Fischer. The bulk of the material consists of nearly five decades of continuous correspondence between Anne Fischer and Hermann Simon. In addition, there is a very small amount of official documents of family members and a few photographs.

This collection documents the life of Anneliese Riess and her family. The bulk of the collection contains correspondence that reflects the impact of fascism and anti-Semitic policies on her personal life and on her immediate family.

The collection consists primarily of correspondence to Annie Heim from her brother Ernst Bernstein regarding his efforts to emigrate with his wife. There also also documents and correspondence pertaining to the composer Rudolf Senger.

The Annual and Mid-Winter National Conventions Records document the proceedings and outcomes of the conventions and conferences attended by Hadassah’s National Board as well as by convention delegates from the various regions of Hadassah. The conventions in particular are where local and regional leaders meet with each other and the National Board and learn about Hadassah’s various projects and committees. This record group also includes annual reports from 1926-2001.

The collection holds Anny Bernstein’s correspondence, which she received from her family in Vienna, Austria and other places, while living in New York. Also included is an offprint with an article about Ann’s husband Frank Zwillinger (1909-1989).

43 original, handwritten letters in Judeo-German, written by Anselm Marum mostly in Sobernheim to Sara Marcus in Kreuznach and in Hüffelsheim during their long courtship, 1828 to 1842.

The records consist of documentation of the Anti-Defamation League efforts to track and counter activities of the John Birch Society from its founding in 1958 through the mid-1970s. The material was organized by the ADL New England regional office and consists of correspondence, including copies of internal JBS material, memoranda, a large volume of newspaper clippings, as well as pamphlets, publications and reports.
