Abraham Ellstein (1907-1963) Papers
This collection contains Hebrew, Yiddish and English sheet music compositions, programs, playbills, and reviews, with extensive files relating to the operas "The Golem" and "The Thief and the Hangman" and the musical "Great to Be Alive." There are also some photographs and correspondence.
Adolf Schwersenz Family Collection
This collection includes personal and official documents of the Adolf Schwersenz family, including his professional work as a cantor, mainly during his time in Berlin. It contains sheet music used by Adolf Schwersenz, as well as newspaper clippings and letters.
Brotzen Family Collection
The collection is primarily composed of various documents and manuscripts pertaining to the history of the Brotzen family written by Joachim Brotzen. Also included is sheet music belonging to soprano Loni Schwarz-Brotzen.
Cantors Assembly of America Collection
This collection consists of publications of annual convention proceedings from 1948 to 1973, 1975-1977 and two songbooks from 1967 and some undated.
Erwin Hirsch Collection.
This collection contains a three page document from a 2004 memorial for Cantor Erwin Hirsch, including biographical information for him. The collection also contains a CD, available online, with favorites from the liturgy of Congregation Habonim sung by Cantor Erwin Hirsch, assisted by the choir under the direction of Martha Hirsch. Herbert and Leni Fromm Collection
This collection primarily holds material on the professional lives of Leni Fromm, hostess of the Boston based German Radio Hour, and her husband, the composer Herbert Fromm. Papers here include material on Leni Fromm's radio program and some of Herbert Fromm's professional appearances and activities. Some of the Fromms' personal correspondence is additionally included. The collection comprises correspondence, radio scripts, unpublished manuscripts, clippings and articles, and a few music scores and photographs.
Hermann Ehrlich Family Collection
The Hermann Ehrlich papers contain handwritten documents on the genealogy of the Ehrlich, Rosenbaum, and Romberg families, including family trees. It contains also the collected work of Hermann Ehrlich as a cantor and teacher, including hymn books and sheets of music. Furthermore there are notes on the life of Hermann Ehrlich.
Ilse Frank Collection.
This collection contains a variety of material related to the pre-war life and emigration of members of the Frank family of Bamberg, Germany. There are five handwritten reports by Bernhard Sichel from his studies at the University of Würzburg (1906-1909); four music books from the choir of the Synagogue at Bad Mergentheim, composed by Sol Prager, for four parts: I bass, II bass, I tenor, II tenor, and a printed music sheet entitled Psalmen und Gebete im Urtexte, in Musik gesetzt von David Rubin (circa 1900-1931); birth certificate for Henry (Heinz) Frank (1938); correspondence of Henry Frank from Newark, NJ, with travel agencies, the Joint Distribution Committee, and the US State Department, trying to secure a Cuban visa and passage for his mother Ernestine Frank (née Früh) in Bamberg. The correspondence reflects the enormous financial cost and bureaucracy required for a visa. The papers never went through and Ernestine was deported to Riga, where she perished. (1941-1942).
Joseph Winogradoff papers
Collection consists of concert programs, handbills, and other promotional material pertaining to the United States career of Joseph Winogradoff, a renowned, Russian-born operatic baritone between, 1920-1924.
Leopold Krämer Collection
This collection contains Leopold Kraemer's certification documents as a teacher and cantor, professional recommendations, and liturgical sheet music.
Manfred Lewandowski Collection
The Manfred Lewandowski Collection documents the professional life of cantor Manfred Lewandowski with a focus on some of his more prominent compositions. It additionally holds some genealogical material on the Lewandowski family. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings and copies of photographs; also included are sheet music, official and professional documentation including certificates, family trees and genealogical notes, and an essay on cantorial music.
Records of the Jewish Ministers Cantors Association
This collection consists of musical compositions composed specifically for the Association, as well as a 1942 concert program and an autographed photograph [of Joseph Rumshinsky?].
Salomon Samuel Collection
The first folder contains a two part typescript by Salomon Samuel, a reflection on the period of Jewish emancipation (5600-5700, i.e. circa 1840 to 1938) titled "5600-5700. Rueckblick auf ein Jahrhundert juedischer Weltenaera". In the first part (27 pp.) Samuel describes the historical events from the so called "Damascus affair" (1840) to the Évian Conference (1938), in the second part titled "Religioese und geistesgeschichtliche Entwicklung" (179 pp.) the Jewish religious and intellectual developments in the Era of emancipation.
The second folder contains a photocopied typescript titled "Einfuehrung", the introduction to Samuel's "Ein Lehrbuch juedischer Religion" (published in 1930) and a biographical article by Samuel's son Jochanan Samuel (1901-1976) titled "Rabbiner Dr. Salomon Samuel" published in: Muenster am Hellweg. 6/9 (June, 1978). pp. 81-88.
