Giessen (Hesse, Germany)

The collection contains original documents from the first half of the 19th century regarding decrees made affecting the Jewish community, found in folder 1. Folder 2 contains the programs accompanying the 1992 and 1994 award of the Hedwig-Burgheim Medaille, given in 1992 to Rabbi Henry G. Brandt, the program also includes articles commemorating the 50th anniversary of deportation. The 1994 award was given to provost Helmut Grün and the book includes documentation on rebuilding of synagogue in Giessen.

This collection consists primarily of materials documenting Ernst Shomberg's education and career as a physician both in Germany and in New York after emigration. There are a also a few items pertaining to his wife's family and some genealogical materials.

This collection contains documents and photographs relating to Margaret Rothenberger (1894-1995) and her family. The materials include family trees and genealogical research about the Katz, Oppenheimer, Rothenberger, and Hochschild families, as well as documents relating to specific individuals and hundreds of photographs.

The Wartensleben-Levi-Rosenbaum-Klippstein Collection pertains to the genealogy and history of these related families. Included are genealogical tables and photocopied documents. Photocopies consist of a narrative history of the family, photographs, clippings, and official documents such as birth, marriage, and death certificates.
