Vital statistics records

The collection documents the family of Gertrude Kaplan. It includes vital, educational, and employment records related to her father, typesetter Raphael Haber (1889-? ), and mother, Dora née Seidler (1896- ?). Both were from the Bukovina province of the Austro-Hungarian empire and perished in the Holocaust. Gertrude Kaplan and her brother Manfred escaped to New York in 1939, and materials relating to the immigration are also found here, as are a few photographs.

Financial, business, and personal papers of the Eltzbacher family and related families, including correspondence, architectural plans, financial ledgers, wills and testaments, clippings, and eulogies; of particular interest is the business correspondence of Count Aloys zu Kaunitz-Rietberg with the banker Jacob Loeb Eltzbacher (1758-1825), who was based in Neuenkirchen, Westphalia, along with supporting documents and records; material on the career of the lawyer Carl Eltzbacher (1854-1936), including clippings on his candidacy to the Cologne city council in 1903 and correspondence, including a letter from Konrad Adenauer.

This collection documents three generations of German-Jewish dentists: Josef Wilhelm Sachs (1816-1879), Wilhelm Sachs (1849-1929), and Hans J. Sachs (1881-1974). It primarily contains vital, education, and professional documents, such as marriage and birth records, diplomas, handwritten account books, letters of reference, and printed material about dentistry. It also includes printed material about Hans Sachs's renowned poster collection.

This collection contains the personal papers of members of the Hecht, Bielefeld, Günther, and Gottschalk families. Materials range widely in time period and content, providing insight into varied experience of these families from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century. This collection contains personal papers from the Simson and Ruppel families of Gotha, Germany as well as materials from the restitution claims made by the family members. The bulk of the materials relate to Jack Ruppel and his mother Margarete née Simson. Materials include family trees, personal correspondence, vital records, identification papers, emigration and naturalization records, educational transcripts and grades, military records, newspaper clippings, maps, oral history transcripts, and legal papers related to restitution claims.

This collection contains correspondence, family keepsakes, legal records and other papers of the John Peters family, descended from the Pinkus family of Upper Silesia. The family was notable for its large textile factory in Neustadt, Germany (now Prudnik, Poland) and involvement in local culture, politics, and civil life. "Aryanization" forced Hans Hubert Pinkus, John’s father, to emigrate and take his family to the UK in 1939. The John Peters (Pinkus) Family Papers document the lives and the relationships of these men and their families in the decades after WWII, including legal applications for restitution.

The collection contains comprehensive personal and professional official documents of Dr. Karl Isaac-Krieger as well as genealogical information regarding his family and that of his wife, Auguste Isaac-Krieger nee Krieger.

This collection documents the education, immigration, and professional life of the physician Karl Rubner (born 1906), covering his early life in the Bukovina (part of Austro-Hungary), his studies in Vienna and Paris, and his later career in New York City. Materials include school and university records, vital records, correspondence, identification papers, articles, licenses to practice medicine, and photographs.

This collection contains the family papers of the Loewald and Landshut families, notably personal and vital papers from before, during and after World War II which illustrate both the family's history and personal and professional lives. In particular, this collection amply documents the family's emigration in 1939, as well as a relative's internment in Theresienstadt, through legal documents and personal and official correspondence. There are also a large number of photographs illustrating Rosa Loewald's work as a nurse during World War I.

The Leo and Anne Marie Grebler Family Collection records the Greblers’ personal and professional lives in Germany and the United States through correspondence, documents, family histories, writings, and photographs. Both the personal correspondence and photographs available in the collection demonstrate the Greblers close relationships with their extended family and friends, particularly Jacob (called Jascha) and Marianne (called Bertel) Marschak. A substantial quantity of information regarding the Grebler, Gerson and related families is also available. Writings by Leo Grebler elucidate his career as an economist and his special interest in real estate and housing finance.

This collection contains personal and official papers and correspondence, and vital records documents pertaining to Fritz and Lilly Fabian and their families, including Lilly Fabian's papers from her time in the Theresienstadt camp and a short memoir by Fritz about life under the National Socialist oppression. The other major group of materials in this collection pertains to Fritz and Lilly Fabian's restitution claims and efforts to regain German citizenship.

The Lithuanian Jewish Communities Collection is comprised of documents relating to Jewish cultural, religious, social, political, and economic life in approximately 150 towns in Lithuania. The bulk of the collection pertains to the period between 1919 and 1926, when elements of a system of Jewish national autonomy existed within the Lithuanian state, including a Ministry of Jewish Affairs and governmentally empowered Jewish community councils. Smaller parts of the collection relate to the periods before (1860-1918) and after (1927-1940) the autonomy.

This collection contains three generations of family and personal documents pertaining to the family of Louis Herz. Included are vital documents such as birth certificates, death certificates, and identification cards, as well as passports, death notices, school documents, and military papers.

This collection covers the history of the Levy family of Hamburg, Germany from 1837 through 1942. The bulk of the material relates to Ludwig Levy and his wife Ida née Winterberg, particularly the wealth that they lost during Nazi persecution and their unsuccessful efforts to emigrate. This collection traces the Kirchheimer family from 1911 until 2011 and focuses on the personal lives of the family members and their ties to the cities of Wolfenbüttel, Bremerhaven, Bad Driburg, and surrounding towns. Materials include clippings, photographs, speeches, correspondence, education records, ephemera, poems, small notebooks, a diary, a high school yearbook, and few vital records.

The Moos-Moore Family Collection includes materials pertaining to the history of the Moos-Moore family and other closely associated families. The bulk of the collection consists of materials comprising the unpublished book Erinnerungen eines Konstanzer by Samuel Moos. Materials for Moos’ unpublished book include family correspondence and correspondence with other researchers and archives, photographs, original family documents, manuscripts (drafts), clippings, genealogical charts and family trees. Materials collected here are predominantly original documents.

The Mühlfelder and Roeckert Families Collection contains both primary sources and research materials that, together, combine to record the history of these families. Charles C. Milford (born Klaus Mühlfelder) compiled the research materials; the greatest quantity of correspondence, documents, and photographs in the collection also pertains to his life. Documents include vital documents, educational records, military service records, and materials relating to Charles C. Milford’s career as a librarian. In addition to Milford, his father Simon Mühlfelder and wife Patricia E. Milford feature most prominently in the first three series of the collection. Family history research focuses on Simon Mühlfelder’s first wife Martha Kassel and people within her milieu. This research is compiled from Milford’s correspondence with scholars and archives, relevant archival finding aids and photocopies of documents held by various archives, articles, photocopies from books, catalog records for pertinent books, and Wikipedia pages and other printouts of biographical information from the Internet. These same types of material also make up Milford’s research on topics of interest, including the history of Jews in Germany broadly and of the Mühlfelder family specifically.

The collection is comprised of files pertaining to the restitution claims of Paul Engel, his wife Margaret A. Engel née Elikann, Margaret’s sister Selma Hacker née Elikann, and Selma’s husband Carl Hacker, along with wartime and post-war family correspondence.

This collection contains photocopies of documents pertaining to Anton Felix Perl’s emigration from Vienna to Canada, as well as has medical training and career as a physician in Canada, including school and medical certificates, correspondence, vital records, and photographs. Also included are family trees of the Perl and Richter families, as well as an essay, photographs, and clippings about Dr. Frederick Ludwig Eid, with whom Perl worked in Macklin, Saskatchewan.
