Enlightenment

The bulk of this collection consists of materials docmenting the research of Alexander Altmann on German and German-Jewish history, particularly the philosophy of Moses Mendelssohn.

These are papers presented at a symposium, sponsored by the Leo Baeck Institute, held in Haifa, Israel, on March 13-15, 1983. Manuscripts from three additional presentations were not submitted for this collection.

This collection contains materials related to research that Matenko conducted for a publication of correspondence between Rahel and Karl August Varnhagen von Ense and the family of Rahel's brother, Ludwig Robert.

This collection contains papers of several generations of the Veit and Simon families, including passports, letters of protection, contracts, wills, official and financial documents, and a few photographs. Some of the prominent individuals featured in this collection include Moses Mendelssohn, Dorothea Schlegel, and Meyer Amschel Rothschild.

The collection contains photocopies and microfilm reels with items from the Leopold Zunz Archives at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel.
