Lights in Action (LIA) was a network of students dedicated to inspiring Jewish pride and unity among college students. LIA student activists designed, created, and distributed Jewish/Zionist literature that reached approximately 100,000 students on over 120 campuses. In addition, LIA designed and coordinated national student projects like Shabbat Leumit, a guide to lead students across North America through the rituals during Shabbat. LIA also hosted and sponsored national conferences, summer programs in Israel, leadership training, and seminars on a variety of topics of interest to Jewish students. The records include Lights in Action publications and printed matter, administrative records, photographs and slides, audiovisual material, sound recordings, and born digital material.

The Lila and Leo Marx Collection contains the papers of this couple, with documentation about their early lives in Germany and the effects on their lives by Nazi persecution, their subsequent emigration, and the fates of their family members. Much of the collection focuses on their restitution claims and financial situation. The collection consists of a large amount of restitution correspondence; family correspondence; official, educational, and employment documents; a chronology and narrative of the lives of Lila and Leo Marx and their families; and a few photographic postcards.

This collection tells the story of Liselotte (Lilo) Thekla Lamm, her parents Leo Lamm and Margarete (Gretel) Lamm née Falk, husbands Norbert Goldenberg, Hans Gerhard Ollendorff, and William (Bill) Thurnauer, their children and grandchildren, and members of their extended families. The families’ lives in Germany, immigration to the United States, and professional, political and philanthropic activities are documented through vital documents, photographs, correspondence, writings, articles, and clippings.

The Lipsky Family Papers reflect the professional and personal activities of Eleazar Lipsky (1911-1993), his father, Zionist leader Louis Lipsky (1876-1963), and his mother, Charlotte Lipsky (1879-1959), as well as other family members. Eleazar Lipsky was a lawyer, novelist, Zionist and the head of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in the early 1960s. While working on a multi-part family novel, Eleazar Lipsky gathered and arranged much of the family material in this collection. In addition to family history, the collection contains information on the American Zionist movement, Bernard Richards’s role in the Committee of Jewish Delegations at the 1919 Paris Peace Conference, and various legal battles involving such parties as the Jewish Week, the American Examiner, Doubleday, Philip Hochstein and Lillie Shultz. The materials include correspondence, an unfinished manuscript, legal transcripts, clippings, speeches, research materials, financial documents, miscellaneous writings and a few photographs.

The collection holds material on the life and art of the German artist Lisa Rodewald. It includes official documents, letters, newspaper clippings, photographs, part of a film script, and brochures, which give insights into her personal and professional life as an artist in the U.S. Her focus was embroidery, needle paintings, and watercolors on tissue paper.

This collection contains personal papers of Siegfried Loeb and Else Loeb née Feibes and their immediate family members. The Loebs fled Germany for Palestine and then the United States, settling in Forest Hills, New York. Included are family trees, emigration papers, official documents, photographs, Julian Ulrich Loeb’s U.S. Army papers, and a cookbook.

This collection contains materials relating to Erna Loewenstein née Kahn and her family. It includes correspondence between family members in New York and Bingen am Rhein, Germany during World War Two, as well as various items such as passports, photographs, and other documents.

This collection contains Lotte Boritzer née Rosenthal’s 1938-1939 diary, 2001 autobiography, and family correspondence from 1938 until 1941, accompanied by her daughter Yael Neumann’s translations and notes. Also included are photocopies of family photos and two newspaper articles about the Rosenthal family.

This collection mainly consists of documents pertaining to the lives of Louis and Grete Rosenzweig. There are several personal documents, such as letters or diaries, as well as official documents concerning, for example, Louis's occupational career.

This collection contains writings, minutes, financial records, correspondence, printed materials, newspaper clippings, and photographs relating to Broido's employment, investments, and Jewish and non-Jewish communal activities. It includes material regarding the department store, Gimbel Bros. (1934-1966), where he was associated with Bernard Gimbel, and where he served as Executive Vice President and as Chairman of the Advisory Committee (1953-1961); Temple Emanu-El (1957-1970), where he served as trustee and opposed secession from the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (1944-1976), serving as President from 1965-1975, and where he was involved in the investigation of the Charles Jordan murder in Prague (1967); the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (1953-1972) where he served as trustee and played an active role in financial matters and relations with the Hebrew Union College; the United Jewish Appeal (1941-1972) where he served as President (1951-1952), trustee and member of the Board of Directors; the New York City Community College (1956-1972) where he served as trustee; and the Department of Commerce and Industrial Development of the City of New York (1961-1971) where he served as Commissioner (1961-1966).

This collection contains materials related to Steven Lowell (born Loewenthal) and his ancestors. It includes historical family documents, genealogical research, and photographs, as well as files concerning Lowell’s efforts at gaining restitution from the Austrian government.

The collection focuses primarily on Lucie Benedikt’s efforts to receive restitution and a pension from the Austrian government. Also included are a few personal items.

This collection contains personal and official papers of the Blau, Mahl, and Goldberg families of Vienna, Austria. The bulk of the records stems from the 1930s through the 1940s and relates to the immediate family of Lucie Blau (1932-2010) and to her aunt Etta Mahl née Stern and uncle Max Mahl. Materials include correspondence, vital records, immigration records, education and employment records, business records, arrangements for funerals and gravestones, and a few photographs and slides. Limited documentation of restitution efforts is also included.

Contains newspaper clippings of Jewish interest from years 1840-1895, primarily from Philadelphia and New York newspapers. Clippings deal extensively with social and domestic affairs in Philadelphia and New York, the persecution of Jews in Russia and Roumania and relief efforts on their behalf by American Jewry and Baron Moritz de Hirsch, religious and cultural efforts and trends, noted Jewish personalities, the history of the Jewish communities in Philadelphia, New York, and elsewhere. Volume 12 contains clippings pertaining to the Philadelphia Board of Governors of the Poor, of which Moss was a member from 1882-1884.

The Ludwig Misch Collection documents the musical career and life of the musicologist Ludwig Misch. Included in this collection are numerous essays and reviews about several composers, memoirs, personal correspondence and a small amount of family papers. Those documents give an impression of Ludwig Misch's varied activities in the field of music.

This collection documents the medical career of Marczel Haas (1900-1979) through his education and occupational activities. Items pertaining to his education include Gymnasium transcripts, university enrollment books, matriculation certificates, and diplomas. Haas’s medical career is documented by correspondence pertaining to his medical license, letters of recommendation, contracts for positions at hospitals in Breslau and Cluj, offprints of medical articles written by Haas, and professional certificates, including his New York State medical license.

This collection contains documents and photographs relating to Margaret Rothenberger (1894-1995) and her family. The materials include family trees and genealogical research about the Katz, Oppenheimer, Rothenberger, and Hochschild families, as well as documents relating to specific individuals and hundreds of photographs.

The Margarete Katzenstein Family Collection contains correspondence, letters of recommendation, contracts, and certificates regarding Margarete Katzenstein's career as a physician. The collection also contains documents and correspondence regarding Margarete Katzenstein's immigration to the USA. Post and prewar photographs are also included in this collection.

The main subject of the collection is her life and writing, although material concerning other members of the family are also present. The collection consists of typescripts and manuscripts, correspondence, official documents, articles and clippings, photographs, audiocassettes, and notes.

The Marianne Salinger Collection comprises a broad variety of personal and professional documents pertaining to Marianne Salinger and her family. Spanning four generations, the material is clustered around individual stories of several family members and their relationships, each illustrated by different document types and genres, including personal and official letters, diaries, clippings, photographs and slides, various certificates, advertisements, restitution papers, as well as a couple of annotated books of various genres such as children's books, one cookbook, one autobiography and a language textbook. Some translations are included.

The Marianne Salinger Collection Addenda focuses on Marianne Salinger's creative work, but also holds materials related to her family and early life. Included in the collection are original and photocopied official documents, a baby book, many photographs, sketches, newspaper and magazine clippings, genealogical notes and memoirs, and a notebook.

This collection describes the work and lives of the composer, conductor, and accompanist Warner S. Bass and his wife, the singer Marion Corda Bass. Most prominent among the materials of this collection are the music scores created by Warner Bass; they include works he composed, arranged, orchestrated, transcribed, or performed. Other items include personal documents, correspondence, published sheet music, photographs, essays, notes, concert and recital programs, press releases, and clippings.

The Marion Rosenthal Biel Collection holds papers of Marion Rosenthal Biel, her husband Frederick (Fritz) Biel, and of some of their family members. Prominent in the collection are documentation of Marion's early life in Germany and of her life during the early 1940s in England, Wales, and New York, as well as Frederick's time as an interpreter in the United States Army during World War II. The collection includes diaries, military documentation, photographs and a photo album, a small amount of correspondence, family members' official documents, and various other papers.

This collection consists of typescripts and manuscripts of Yiddish radio plays written by Yiddish actor and director Mark Schweid (1891-1969). Also includes There are also four items of ephemera related to the Bronx Art Theatre.
