Jewish physicians

The Rosenfeld Family Collection comprises several generations of official and personal papers of this family of cantors and physicians. Included are a large number of certificates and other official documents from government and military offices, religious authorities, and academic and professional institutions. There are also a few family letters and essays, notes, family trees and genealogical descriptions and various other material.

The collection contains some personal documents of and official correspondence to Rudolf Cohn, but is mainly composed of published and unpublished manuscripts.

Certificates of honor, titles, clippings, and offprints by and about the physician Dr. S. Theodor Stein, most noteworthy letters from crowned European individuals.

The collection contains materials of physician Benni Schlottmann and musician and conductor Louis Schlottmann. Included is a lithograph of and doctor of medicine diploma for Benni Schlottman; and poem written by Louis Schlottmann for Louise Köster on her birthday and letter containing biographical notes about Louis Schlottmann.

The Steiner Family Collection tells the story of the physician Hans Steiner (né Levi), his wife Brigitte (née Marquard), their children Nicholas and Ursula, and related family members. Most prominent in this collection are the family members' memoirs. The collection also holds family documents, including educational and official documents, family correspondence, family photographs, and some family trees.

The lives of Walter and Hedwig Grossmann are documented in this collection through both textual and visual records. Series I focuses on the former, specifically correspondence and educational records. Series II shows the life of the couple, their families, and friends through photographs, with a particular emphasis on the Grossmanns’ travels.

The bulk of the collection contains material pertaining to Jewish life in Braunschweig, Germany, before World War II, including documents from Walter Heinemann's life in Braunschweig during the 1930s and material pertaining to the larger Jewish community and its prominent members. The collection also contains photographs of concentration camps and material pertaining to prominent Jewish individuals and organizations. Included are correspondence, photographs, government forms, notes, speeches, and clippings.

The collection consists of materials (mostly official documents) pertaining to the physician Walter Silberbach (1892-1981) and his family.

The Werner Cohn Collection contains papers of members of the Cohn and related families. Documentation especially focuses on the family's experiences during the 1930s-1940s and the compensation for their losses during this period. The collection encompasses personal correspondence and papers, including official documents of family members, photographs, notes and notebooks, and a few newspaper clippings and other articles. About half the collection consists of restitution correspondence and documentation.

This collection contains the papers of William and Charlotte Engel Levison and their family members. It largely documents the professional work of William Levison, the personal correspondence and interests of Charlotte Engel Levison, and the family history of both the Levison and Engel families, including papers of family ancestors. Among the papers of this collection are official papers, correspondence, poetry books, diaries, memoir material, military and professional papers, notes, and clippings.
