Jewish physicians

The Itzig Family Collection contains papers documenting the history and genealogy of the Itzig and related families. Particularly prominent are the careers and significant achievements of Daniel Itzig (1722-1799) and his son Isaac Daniel Itzig (1750-1806). The collection includes family trees, many photocopies of official certificates and letters, an unpublished typescript for a book on Isaac Daniel Itzig and a few copies of photographs of family members.

This collection contains a large number of letters from the immunologist Julius Morgenroth to his family, especially to his wife Getrude née Bejach. Correspondence from other family members and professional acquaintances is also present, as are some photographs and a small number of personal and professional papers.

This collection centers on the literary work of the physician Julius Walter Levi. He was born in Munich in 1891. In 1937 he immigrated with his family to New York, where he opened his own practice. In addition to his medical career, Julius Walter Levi wrote prolifically poetry and novels as well as plays, essays and short stories. Another section of the collection contains the drafts and the actual manuscript of his memoirs.

The collection contains comprehensive personal and professional official documents of Dr. Karl Isaac-Krieger as well as genealogical information regarding his family and that of his wife, Auguste Isaac-Krieger nee Krieger.

The collection consists of documents, photographs, clippings, ephemera pertaining to three generations of the Kroner family from Berlin, Germany.

The Lichtwitz Family Collection documents the professional lives of the physician Jakob Lichtwitz and his son Leopold. There is some additional material on Rabbi Max Freudenthal of Dessau. The collection includes official documents, correspondence and certificates as well as a few invitations and a postcard.

This collection houses the papers of members of the Wronker family, including Max and Irma Wronker, Hermann and Alice (née Wronker) Engel, and Erich and Lili Cassel-Wronker. In addition, it holds a few items on the Warenhaus Hermann Wronker AG of Frankfurt am Main. Included in the collection are official papers, correspondence, postcards, guestbooks and other albums, photographs, offprints, and objects.

This collection tells the story of Liselotte (Lilo) Thekla Lamm, her parents Leo Lamm and Margarete (Gretel) Lamm née Falk, husbands Norbert Goldenberg, Hans Gerhard Ollendorff, and William (Bill) Thurnauer, their children and grandchildren, and members of their extended families. The families’ lives in Germany, immigration to the United States, and professional, political and philanthropic activities are documented through vital documents, photographs, correspondence, writings, articles, and clippings.

This collection holds the papers of rabbi Ludwig Philippson and other Philippson family members. Noteworthy items in this collection include handwritten manuscripts by Ludwig Philippson, correspondence between various family members, and diaries kept by Henriette and Moritz Philippson; the latter describes experiences as a medical student in Jena. In addition, the collection also holds manuscripts by the geographer Alfred Philippson that describe in depth family members as well as his experiences as a student, lecturer, and professor. Other items include detailed family trees, official papers, poems, notes, clippings, wills, and photographs.

This collection documents the medical career of Marczel Haas (1900-1979) through his education and occupational activities. Items pertaining to his education include Gymnasium transcripts, university enrollment books, matriculation certificates, and diplomas. Haas’s medical career is documented by correspondence pertaining to his medical license, letters of recommendation, contracts for positions at hospitals in Breslau and Cluj, offprints of medical articles written by Haas, and professional certificates, including his New York State medical license.

This collection holds the papers of members of Margaret Strauss Berman's family in several towns in the Palatinate. It is primarily composed of personal documents, like photographs, biographical texts and a diary, and it contains also some newspaper clippings and a flyer.

This collection traces the Kirchheimer family from 1911 until 2011 and focuses on the personal lives of the family members and their ties to the cities of Wolfenbüttel, Bremerhaven, Bad Driburg, and surrounding towns. Materials include clippings, photographs, speeches, correspondence, education records, ephemera, poems, small notebooks, a diary, a high school yearbook, and few vital records.

This collection contains a wide variety of documents and papers pertaining to the family of Ernst Mathias, including several documents pertaining to his ancestors, some of whom were physicians, and others who were manufacturers who served the Prussian court in the 19th century.

This collection contains the personal and business papers of the Moses family, along with family genealogical materials. Isaac Moses (1742-1818) was a prominent New York businessman and American patriot who helped fund and supply the US forces during the Revolution. His descendants were prominent Jewish businessmen in New York who traveled internationally, and served in the Union Army during the Civil War.

The Otto Gersuny Collection contains transcripts, certificates, and other documents related to Otto Gersuny's education and career as well as vital documents tracking personal family events. The collection also holds documents related to his emigration.

Zemach Shabad Collection documents Dr. Shabad’s career as a physician in Vilna (Vilnius) and to a smaller extent his involvement in Vilna’s (Vilnius) civil and communal lives. The collection consists of medical records, correspondence, reports, minutes, financial records, travel documents, and conference materials.

This collection contains photocopies of documents pertaining to Anton Felix Perl’s emigration from Vienna to Canada, as well as has medical training and career as a physician in Canada, including school and medical certificates, correspondence, vital records, and photographs. Also included are family trees of the Perl and Richter families, as well as an essay, photographs, and clippings about Dr. Frederick Ludwig Eid, with whom Perl worked in Macklin, Saskatchewan.

The collection contains various documents pertaining to Rabbi Dr. Isaac Prager and his son the psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Prager.

This collection documents the life and work of Richard D. Loewenberg, a German physician who immigrated via Shanghai to the United States. Contained are several of his manuscripts on general as well as medical topics, offprints and clippings of his published articles, correspondence, poems, personal documents, notebooks and diaries.

This collection documents the personal and professional lives of Hans Rosenberg (1908-1982) and his wife Ernestine née Rosner Rosenberg (1912-1962), from their childhoods and early medical careers in Vienna to their final years in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The collection also includes items from associates and friends, along with extended and immediate relatives, most notably Hans Rosenberg’s sister Madeleine née Rosenberg Buchsbaum (1911-2014).
