Gertrude van Tijn Collection

Abstract

This collection primarily documents the professional life of the social worker Gertrude van Tijn, who worked with Jewish refugees in Amsterdam during the 1930s-1940s. Much of the material focuses on the experiences of Dutch Jewry along with the German-Jewish refugees who had fled to Holland. About half the collection relates to the manual training farm Werkdorp Nieuwesluis. Some reports on the postwar refugee situation in Shanghai and Australia and biographical material are also present. The collection includes reports, correspondence, official documents, newspaper clippings and articles and a few photographs.

Abstract

The Leo Gompertz Collection primarily documents Leo Gompertz's search for information on Haus Berta, a recreation and training institution for Jewish youth during the late 1930s. The collection also includes a number of photographs of Haus Berta, its staff and residents, as well as some other documents on it and a few personal papers of Leo Gompertz.

Personal documents of William Graetz, including military papers, and membership and identity cards. Records of ORT committees, minutes of executive committee meetings, correspondence and reports of the activities of ORT branches during the years 1926-1970 in Argentina, Bessarabia, Bolivia, Brazil, France, Germany, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, South Africa, Switzerland, and the USSR, also including letters from Leo Baeck. Records of the Jewish community of Berlin, in 1929 and 1930, including correspondence on juvenile care, financial reports, and meeting minutes.
