Leather industry and trade

This collection holds the papers of members of the Bär and Oppenheimer families from Bruchsal, Germany. It documents the history of the two families as well as the Bär leather distribution company and Oppenheimer woolens factory. Included in this collection are business and personal correspondence, personal papers, financial records, family trees and a few newspaper clippings.

The collection is composed of personal documents of Erich Ahrens and various manuscripts and translations.

This collection contains the papers of Nanette and Eugen Wassermann, in particular those regarding their emigration to the United States and a large number pertaining to their leather goods factory Hch. Wassermann jun. in Nuremberg.

The bulk of the collections consists of correspondence and official documents about disappropriation of the family business, ”Otto Hochhauser Feinleder Manufaktur" in Vienna, Austria in 1938 (photocopies and some originals.) Also included are records pertaining to education and emigration, as are photographs, as well as compositions and lyrics by Grete Hochhauser, née Barkan.

The collection documents the lives of Hans and Hella Ax in Vienna, Austria and their flight through England to the United States.

Material related to the Victor (Vicktor) family and their leather factory in Heilbronn, Germany, including a handwritten company contract (Gesellschaftvertrag ) for the brothers Julius and Joseph Vic(k)tor , 1870(?), photocopies about the company, and education certificates for Max Victor, 1914-1925. Also included is a school certificate for Minna Levi, Fulda, 1890.
