Albert G. Hess Family Collection
The collection contains materials relating to the life of Albert G. Hess and his family. These include official documents, correspondence, transcript of records of university, newspaper clippings, a publication, and photographs. The collection documents his life in Germany prior to World War II and in the United States after his immigration.

Alfred Philippson Collection
The collection contains numerous personal papers, manuscripts and correspondence with explorers and geographers. The personal papers follow Philippson’s career as professor in Bonn and in Halle.
Alfred Schutz Family Collection
This collection comprises the family papers of the social scientist Alfred Schutz and his family members, including his wife, parents and daughter. The majority of the collection consists of correspondence, especially concerning family members' immigration. Aside from correspondence, the collection holds official, travel and identification papers and vital records, the creative writing of Alfred Schutz and other family members, and a small amount of material on restitution and genealogy.
Arthur Prinz Collection
This collection documents the life and work of the economist Arthur Prinz. It is comprised of correspondence, documents, diaries, clippings, research notes, index cards, and books and offprints. Information on various topics, especially immigration and emigration during the 1930s, Jews and the German economy, and Marxist economics will also be found here.
Arthur Prinz Collection - Dickinson College
The economics professor Arthur Prinz (1898-1981) was born in Guatemala, educated in Berlin, and emigrated first to Palestine and then to the United States, where he became a professor of economics at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. This collection consists mainly of notes and manuscripts written by Prinz for a book on the psychological aspects of Karl Marx’s Das Kapital. Also included are several folders of lecture notes, clippings, research materials, and some correspondence.
Bruno Schindler Collection
This collection contains the personal papers, photos, and correspondence of educator Bruno Schindler and journalist James Heckscher. The Heckscher materials include several letters from notable cultural figures like Moses Montefiore and Ivan Turgenev, as well as several from members of Parliament.
Dimon-Kurrein Family Collection
The Dimon-Kurrein Family Collection contains the assorted papers of the Kurrein, Blau, Dimon, and Loewe families. A special focus is on the family correspondence during and after their emigration to the United States and Palestine in 1934. Official documents, a biographical essay, a family photo album, articles on Max Kurrein and several family trees are included in the collection.
Eleanor and Paul Alexander Collection
Eleanor Alexander née Eyck (1913-2009) and her husband Paul Alexander (1910-1977) were both born in Berlin and immigrated to the United States in the 1930s, where Paul Alexander became a respected professor of Byzantine history. This collection mainly documents his education and career. Several folders also contain book reviews and biographical information related to the lawyer and historian Erich Eyck, Eleanor’s father. It also contains correspondence between Eleanor Eyck and her parents from the 1930s, a few photographs, a family tree, and a few materials relating to other family members.
Ellis Family Collection
The Ellis Family Collection consists of the papers of John and Eva Ellis and of many of their related family members. The collection has a particular focus on the education, marriage, and emigration of John (born Hans Elias) and Eva (née Steinitz), with further documentation of the couple's early lives and later professions. In addition, the collection holds a great deal of information on their extended families, with material on the related Elias, Steinitz/ Samuel, Fein, Goldschmidt, Eschwege, Mindus, and related families, including documentation of individual family members and the families in general and their histories. The collection includes extensive family and personal correspondence, official documents and correspondence, personal and professional writing, educational certificates, immigration documentation, photographs and photo albums, family trees and narratives of family history, and other documentation.
Ernst Hamburger Collection
The life of Ernst Hamburger was extraordinarily rich and varied; regrettably, his literary estate does not completely document it. In his flight from Nazi Germany, Hamburger had to leave all his papers behind. With a few exceptions, the same was the case in 1940. It appears he made it a practice to periodically weed his papers. At his request, a friend went through his papers after his death and destroyed two cartons full of personal and confidential material. Consequently, the remaining matter is only a fragment of a much larger life’s work.
Ernst J. Schlochauer Collection
This collection contains the writings and some personal documents of literature professor and scholar Ernst J. Schlochauer. The collection also contains some materials pertaining to his in-law Ernst Warschauer and his family.

Eugen Kullmann Estate Collection
The Eugen Kullmann Estate Collection contains documentation of the professional life and personal connections of the philosophy and religion professor and scholar Eugen Kullman. Much of the collection is made up of his correspondence from others, but there are also many notes related to his teaching and research along with professional and official documents. Notes and papers of the philosopher Karl Joël also form a significant portion of this collection. The collection includes notes such as research and lecture notes as well as notebooks; extensive correspondence from others, including family, friends, and colleagues to Eugen Kullmann; and official, professional, and personal documents.
Eva Schiffer Family Collection
This collection contains the personal papers of Eva Schiffer (1925-2010) and her immediate family, focusing almost exclusively on the childhood of Eva and her younger brother Stefan Georg Schiffer in Vienna in the 1930s. The collection consists of family photograph albums, passports, school notebooks, correspondence, an autograph album, a diary documenting the infancy of Stefan Georg Schiffer, and a program from a memorial service for Eva Schiffer.

Fritz Bamberger Collection
This collection documents the life and scholarly interests of Fritz Bamberger, scholar and former vice-president of the Leo Baeck Institute. Much of the collection focuses on his professional and scholarly activities. It includes many newspaper clippings and articles, official documents, correspondence, a scrapbook, family papers, a few photographs and notes.
Fritz Haber Collection
Original correspondence consists of one letter each to Peter Pringsheim (1912); Joseph Koeth (1928); and A. Sommerfeld; as well as six letters to Ernst Stern (1907-1908). A handwritten 1933 letter from Fritz Haber to Chaim Weizmann in Mannern, Switzerland (6 pages) is available as a photocopy only. Also included is a typescript by Hans Schaeffer on Jews in Breslau (photocopy), Die soziale, politische und religioese Stellung der juedischen Familien in Breslau um die Jahrhundertwende 1900. The typescript is part of a letter by Hans Schaeffer to Johannes Jaenicke, also in the collection.

Georg Iggers' Office Files
The collection contains the office files of Georg Iggers, a renowned historian and social activist. His fields of expertise included historiography and modern European history. The collection is arranged into four series and two subseries. Materials in this collection include a large amount of correspondence, notes, drafts of writings, and some personal documents. The correspondence includes letters from renowned historians and scholars.
Gerard Caspary Collection
The personal papers of the professor for medieval history Gerard E. Caspary consist mainly of a typescript “From the edge of the Holocaust: Letters from my mother and grandmother 1940-1943”, composed by Caspary between 2005-2006 and the original letters on which it is based. Also included are photographs and additional family research documents.
Gundersheimer Siegel Family Collection
The Gundersheimer Siegel Family Collection holds papers of the art historian and professor Hermann S. Gundersheimer as well as papers of members of the Gundersheimer and Siegel families. With a focus on the professional work of Hermann Gundersheimer and the family's emigration, the collection contains correspondence, newspaper clippings, lecture texts and notes, official documents, articles, certificates, genealogical research and family trees.
Harold W. Fox Collection
This collection reflects Harold W. Fox’s (1923-1999) academic career. The bulk of the collection consists of his publications in trade and scholarly journals. Other materials include conference programs, teaching materials, typed manuscripts, abstracts, and limited correspondence.
Harry Kranner Fiss Collection
The Harry Kranner Fiss Collection documents the life of Harry Kranner Fiss, especially highlighting his life in Vienna, Austria, in the 1930s, as a translator for the American military's prosecution team at the Nuremberg Trials in 1945, and his professional career. A smaller amount of material relates to the Kranner/ Fiss family and to the related Römer, Singer, and other families. The collection contains many manuscripts and drafts of articles, novels, and poetry; diaries; extensive photographs and photograph albums; correspondence; notes; official documents; programs; and other materials.
Helmut Hirsch Collection
This collection holds the papers of the historian and author Helmut Hirsch, which focus primarily on his professional activities and connections as well as some material pertaining to his immigration experiences. Prominent in this collection is his extensive professional correspondence. Other materials included here are some personal correspondence, unpublished manuscripts, notes and research material.
Helmuth (Harry) Kahn Collection
This collection contains personal and professional papers of Helmuth (Harry) Kahn (1912-1987). Materials include vital documents, education records, and letters of recommendation for Helmuth Kahn from his time as a school teacher in Baisingen (Germany) as well as a family tree, clippings, and various research materials on the history of German Jewry in Württemberg. Materials related to a lecture series at the University of Vermont in Kahn's honor are also included.
