Abstract

This record group contains three-dimensional objects and printed materials that relate to the history of Hadassah. A bulk of this record group consists of promotional and commemorative objects and awards created by Hadassah for its Annual and Midwinter National Conventions, and for Young Judaea events. Examples of such items include t-shirts, hats, bags, buttons, stationery and keychains. Artifacts created by local Hadassah chapters and regions, as well as awards received by local and national Hadassah leaders from other organizations, are also included. Of a particular interest is the bronze death mask of Henrietta Szold.

Collection consists primarly of correspondence and material relating to Stephen S. Wise, including photographs, miscellaneous items, and sermons delivered at Congregation Beth Israel in Portland, Oregon. Also contains letters from Lawrence Gilman, John Haynes Holmes, Leo Katz, Charles A. Sherrill, Michael Banner, Fiske Kimball, and Philip James; a manuscript play "Everyday" by Rachel Crothers; and an autobiography in shorthand.

The Max Kurrein Family Collection documents the professional life of metallurgist and professor Max Kurrein and to a smaller extent the genealogy and lives of several other family members. Various types of materials are included, such as official, educational and professional certificates, correspondence, biographical essays, a photo album and photographs, family trees and articles.

Abstract

Consists primarily of mimeographed copies of thirteen travel diaries prepared by Nettie Kosminsky and her sister Myrtle Cassett in the course of their travels around the world. They are personal in nature and contain anecdotal material on each place visited. Also contains photocopied typescripts of speeches regarding slavery delivered by Meyer Friede in the Missouri legislature (1860), and a reply to an anti-Semitic statement made by another legislator (1861).

This collection consists of photographs of OSE programs, OSE conferences and congresses and various individuals connected with OSE and its programs, mainly dating from World War II and the years just following. Many of these photographs are related to the work OSE does with children’s health and nutrition but there are also numerous pictures of leisure activities, care homes, vocational training, and education.
