Abstract

This collection documents the appropriation of the business and property of the Langfelder family, most prominently the D. Langfelder shoe factory. Eve Cholmar née Langfelder and her nephew Steven Goldner applied for restitution for damages in 2003. The materials in the collection consist of correspondence, legal documents, government files, a detailed exposé of the D. Langfelder shoe factory, a family tree with inheritance and property ownership tables, and applications for restitution.

This collection contains the personal papers of Hilda Levy and her family. Born in 1905 in Tauberbischofsheim, Germany, Hilda Levy managed her family’s shoe store before immigrating to New York City in 1935. Materials in the collection include correspondence, vital records, inheritance and restitution materials, education records, emigration records, and photographs.

Abstract

The focus of this collection is on the experiences of Otto Neubauer (1907-2000) and his family members from 1938-1945 with a particular emphasis on their efforts to secure emigration visas for Maximilian Neubauer, Ernst (Elias) Neubauer, and Frieda Weil. Most of the collection consists of correspondence. Other materials include a diary, a cookbook, limited immigration and restitution documents, and records of Otto Neubauer’s schooling, apprenticeships, and employment.
