Families

The Adler Family Collection contains papers of various members of the Adler family. Most of the collection consists of correspondence, but there are also folders with family papers such as wedding memorabilia, vaccination certificates, visiting cards, telegrams, a notebook, a family tree for one branch of the family and a clipping on Selig Adler.

This collection comprises the family papers of the social scientist Alfred Schutz and his family members, including his wife, parents and daughter. The majority of the collection consists of correspondence, especially concerning family members' immigration. Aside from correspondence, the collection holds official, travel and identification papers and vital records, the creative writing of Alfred Schutz and other family members, and a small amount of material on restitution and genealogy.

This collection contains the correspondence and personal papers of Anne Fischer. The bulk of the material consists of nearly five decades of continuous correspondence between Anne Fischer and Hermann Simon. In addition, there is a very small amount of official documents of family members and a few photographs.

The Aron Rauner Family Collection documents the life of this businessman and his family, although his story is the most prominent of the collection. The papers include official documents and certificates as well as notes, poems, narratives, correspondence and photographic material.

This collection holds the letters, postcards and holiday greetings of Irene Adler and Maria Hagenmeyer. Prominent topics are Irene Adler's everyday life and matters of the Adler and Hagenmeyer families.

The Bruck-Jacobson Family Collection holds documentation of and genealogical research on this family as well as of members of the related Bruck and Flato families. The collection includes official papers, genealogical notes and family trees, personal and educational papers, receipts, paper currency, research notes, certificates, a handwritten cookbook and a handwritten housekeeping manual, a diary, photographs, and a sketch of a family residence.

The Denise Wilde Family Collection holds the papers of members of the Wilde and Szymanski families, with much of the material centering on the life of dentist Herbert Wilde. The collection largely focuses on the immigration of the Wilde family, the education and Belgian dental practice of Herbert Wilde, and the restitution claims of several family members. The collection consists of official and educational documents, correspondence, photographs and family trees.

The collection contains materials relating to the members of the Wilde family that are addenda to the Denise Wilde Family Collection (AR 25189). The items in this collection consist primarily of restitution correspondence, official documents such as birth and death certificates, as well as a few personal notes by Bertha Wilde and family trees.

The Dolly Haas Family Collection documents the significant events in the lives of several Haas family members and it also contains some details of the early career of Dolly Haas. About half the collection consists of family correspondence. In addition there are a diary, wedding papers of Charles and Margarethe Haas, photographs, educational certificates of Dolly Haas and her sister Margarete, some articles, and various other family documents.

The Edgar and Brigitte Bodenheimer Collection documents the professional and personal life of law professor Edgar Bodenheimer as well as that of his wife, Brigitte Bodenheimer (née Levy). The collection contains documentation on their early legal work during the 1940s, Edgar's participation in the Nuremberg Trials, and postwar work as professors, as well as material on their daily lives and other family members. The collection includes a copious amount of correspondence, lecture texts, certificates and diplomas, diaries and notebooks, newspaper clippings, teaching material, poetry, a friendship album, and other papers.

The Eleanor G. Feitler Family Collection consists of the correspondence and papers of members of the Emil and Auguste Glauber and Heinrich and Erna Mayer families, especially the descendants of the three Herrmann sisters (Clara, Paula, and Erna) along with the families into which they married.

The Elk-Zernik Family Collection provides documentation on the lives of several family members, especially Rabbi Max (Meir) Elk, dentist Benjamin Elk, Helmut Zernik and Charlotte Elk Zernik. The collection also holds the written compositions of several family members, including the sermons and articles of Max Elk and the autobiographical writing of Charlotte Elk Zernik. Other material includes a photo album and family photographs, a scrapbook, official papers and certificates, letters, some correspondence and clippings.

The Else Richthofen-Jaffé Correspondence primarily consists of the family correspondence of this social scientist. Much of the collection consists of Else Richthofen-Jaffé's correspondence with her adult children and their families, although some correspondence with other family members or other close individuals is also present. In addition the collection contains parts of an unpublished work on the family and some genealogical notes.

The Erna Maier Family Collection documents the life and the education of Erna Maier. The collection primarily consists of letters written to Erna Maier by her parents. The correspondence between Erna, Laura and Heinrich Maier shows their close relationship. Postcards, daily calendars, poetry and a recipe collection can be found in the collection as well. Other documents includes official documents of Erna Maier and her family, as well as school materials, photos and notes.

The Eugen and Lucie Oppenheimer Collection consists of papers which belonged to Lucie and Eugen. A prominent topic is their relationship. The collection contains correspondence, a manuscript, an eulogy, financial documents, academic documents, a family tree, a confirmation book, a wedding journal, photographs, notes, and notebooks.

This collection holds papers of the philosopher Karl Joël and of various members of the Philippson family. Karl Joël's material includes personal and professional correspondence and a considerable amount of his notes, along with newspaper clippings on him and a few articles. Philippson family material largely focuses on Phöbus, Ludwig and Moritz Philippson's family correspondence and writing. Also present are letters of other family members, a few official documents and notes.

This collection documents the family history and lives of the family members of Eva Stroh, including members of the Sondheimer and Stroh families, as well as papers pertaining to related families. A small amount of material also related to the family firm, Beer, Sondheimer and Co.. The collection includes many photographs and albums, official papers, correspondence, family trees and charts, published articles and notes, daily calendars and a notebook.

The Felix Pinkus Family Collection documents the professional and personal lives of the dermatologist Felix Pinkus and his son Hermann Pinkus, and of other members of their family to a smaller extent. Prominent subjects include their work in dermatology, their artistic interests, Felix Pinkus's travels, and the family in general. This collection comprises a diverse array of formats. Text-based items include correspondence, unpublished writings, notes and research, newspaper clippings and journal articles, educational and professional certificates and documentation, official documents and various kinds of memorabilia. Visual media include photographs, photograph albums, small sketches, drawings and paintings and various types of scrapbooks.

The Ferdinand and Emmy Lichter Family collection holds documents and personal as well as official correspondence of family members, friends, acquaintances, and public and private institutions. Prominent topics include refuge and refugee relief for the Lichters and the communication between family members describing their health, environment etc. in various refugee camps. The collection comprises vital documents, official certificates, emigration papers, correspondence, postcards, and some notes.

The collection mainly consists of correspondence between Franklin Toff and his father, Maurice Toff while Franklin was overseas in Germany studying weaving. Telegrams and other official documents are also present in the collection. The Toff family in New York City was of German-Jewish descent.

The Frieda Lawrence Letters hold some letters of Frieda Lawrence primarily sent to her sister Else Richthofen-Jaffé and Else's son Friedel Jaffé. Included in the first folder of the collection is a summary of the letters by Guenther Roth, which also provides context for them and biographical details on Frieda Lawrence.

The Friedrich (Fritz) and Emma Ginsberg Family Collection largely documents the lives of Fritz, Emma, Gertrud, Ruth and Hilde Ginsberg in King William's Town, South Africa. Some material on relatives, especially Henriette Rosenstein and Samuel Wayburne but also others, will additionally be found here. The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, official documents, poetry, wedding documentation, notes, family trees, and other material.

The Gisela A. Weil Family Collection holds papers of several branches of the family. Prominently featured are papers of members of the Meyer, Weil, Warburg and Melchior families. These papers provide glimpses into family members' lives along with some biographical details on them. The collection includes correspondence; many articles and clippings; official papers; educational certificates; family narratives and a few family trees and photographs.

This collection documents the life and accomplishments of the Goldmark family, whose most famous members were the two composers Carl Goldmark (1830-1915), who embraced Viennese musical life with colleagues such as Brahms, Liszt, Wagner and Rubinstein, and his nephew Rubin Goldmark (1872-1936), who has been honored for his services to American music, as a prolific composer, and composition department chair at (amongst others) the newly created Juilliard School of Music. The collection contains a large amount of correspondence, but also includes newspaper clippings, musical journal articles, concert programmes and notes, a libretto, a citizenship certificate, obituaries, eulogies and photographs.

The Grete Simon, M.D. Collection holds the papers, correspondence and photographs of Dr. Grete Simon, Dr. Adolf Simon, and Martha Simon. The collection contains personal letters, official papers relating to Adolf Simon’s education and work, as well as family photographs.

Manuscripts, materials relating to HansKohn's professional experience, materials relating to his political activities, correspondence, diaries, materials relating to his experience in World War I and as a prisoner of war, personal documents, photos, clippings.

The Herbert Bloch Collection contains the personal papers of the classicist and medievalist Herbert Bloch, a Harvard professor. Prominent is correspondence between himself and his family, which mentions not only family news and the deaths, deportations, and experiences of family members but also references his own research, writing, and teaching. In addition to family correspondence is correspondence with colleagues and friends, former neighbors, and legal and financial correspondence. Other papers in the collection include poetry, educational certificates and diplomas, material relating to Herbert Bloch's academic career, family trees, obituaries, and photographs.

The Joan Salomon Family Collection documents the immigration and marriage of Otto and Helina (née Mayer) Long (formerly Lichtwitz). The fate of family members and restitution for loss of property during the Holocaust are other prominent topics. The collection includes official and personal papers, notebooks, cookbooks, correspondence, articles, photographs and drawings.

This collection contains correspondence, family keepsakes, legal records and other papers of the John Peters family, descended from the Pinkus family of Upper Silesia. The family was notable for its large textile factory in Neustadt, Germany (now Prudnik, Poland) and involvement in local culture, politics, and civil life. "Aryanization" forced Hans Hubert Pinkus, John’s father, to emigrate and take his family to the UK in 1939. The John Peters (Pinkus) Family Papers document the lives and the relationships of these men and their families in the decades after WWII, including legal applications for restitution.
