The materials in this collection constitute a semi-random sample of the pre-war archive that was transferred to the Central State Archives of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic following the liquidation of the Vilnius Jewish Museum in 1949. The collection includes records of YIVO work and activities, financial records, correspondence, and publications; documents about pogroms in Ukraine, and Red Army and Soviet activity in Vilna and Bialystok; and a significant amount of records of socialist, communist, and Zionist political parties, as well as associated newspapers and one-time publications.

The papers of Yiddish poet Aliza Greenblatt include copies of published and unpublished songs, poems and articles in both typed and handwritten manuscript form, newsletters, newspaper clippings, programs, scrapbook pages, and sheet music. There are also drafts and correspondence regarding her autobiography, including original letters sent to her from her husband Isidore when he visited Palestine in 1920, which form a portion of her autobiography. The collection also contains correspondence and legal documents from Greenblatt’s family, documents relating to her Zionist and charitable activities, and correspondence from other Yiddish writers and poets.

The collection documents American Jewish Committee’s efforts to combat all forms of discrimination against the Jews in the United States. Additionally, there are materials pertaining to AJC’s work regarding other minority groups in the United States. The collection offers researchers a unique chance to see how and what was done prior to the changes in public opinion and civic and legal laws. The American Jewish Committee Records, Subject Files consists of materials created by executive offices, departments, local offices and chapters of the Committee concerning a variety of matters; foremost Jewish civil and religious rights, immigration, and the Holocaust.

The collection contains background materials pertaining to the formation of the Conference, the election of delegates, financial records, memoranda, reports, and incomplete minutes of the Conference and its committees. It also includes extensive correspondence of the Administrative Secretary Jesse B. Calmenson, for March-December, 1943. The major portion of the collection consists of transcripts of the first through fourth sessions (1943-1947) of the Plenum and committees of the Conference. The Annual and Mid-Winter National Conventions Records document the proceedings and outcomes of the conventions and conferences attended by Hadassah’s National Board as well as by convention delegates from the various regions of Hadassah. The conventions in particular are where local and regional leaders meet with each other and the National Board and learn about Hadassah’s various projects and committees. This record group also includes annual reports from 1926-2001.

This collection contains the archival papers of Arthur Rath. Most of it consists of correspondence with friends and family members. This collection contains the correspondence of the Anti-Nazi Boycott Committee of the Jewish War Veterans appealing for support against Nazi activities in the United States, 1933, and to assist Nazi sufferers in Europe, as well as other correspondence and printed material describing the purpose, history, and activities of the national organization and local chapters. Included is a scrapbook (1924-1930) containing newspaper clippings in English and Yiddish relating to protests against the massacres of the Jews in Romania and the riots in Palestine in 1929, as well as appeals for financial and political support on behalf of Palestine Jewry. A large portion of this collection consists of photographs depicting the work of the organization.

This Collection contains correspondence relating to Diamond's legal and political career, during which he served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Buffalo, New York State Supreme Court Justice, and on the faculty of the University of Buffalo Law School; material on his activities in the mayoral, gubernatorial, and presidential political campaigns, 1928-1952, among which was the chairmanship of the Buffalo Volunteers for Stevenson, and on his extensive communal and philanthropic activities.

This collection contains a few letters sent to Cohn by notables such as Leo Baeck, Stefan Zweig, Martin Buber, and others, as well as a couple of Cohn's sermons and manuscripts and two scrapbooks.

The collection contains various materials pertaining to Ernst Marckowicz.

This collection contains a handful of letters written by Toller both while in Germany in the 1917-1931 and later during exile in California. In the second folder is a wanted poster (Steckbrief) issued by the Munich Police Department in which Toller is accused of treason for his role in the Bavarian revolution (1919), as well as a few newspaper articles and essays on Toller.

The first folder contains essays and manuscripts written by Loewenson, as well as his letters written to the heads of various Zionist organizations (e.g., Keren Hayesod) during the 1920s. Also included are reminiscences about Erwin Loewenson. The second folder contains newspaper articles written by Loewenson.

This record group includes documents created and maintained by the Office of the President, the Office of the Executive Director and the Chair of the Division Coordinators/Directors Committee. Prominent is the Henrietta Szold series, containing correspondence by and to Szold as well as printed materials written by and about her. The files in this record group were created by a national president or executive director, or for their use, or maintained in their office during their years in office. Included are correspondence, minutes, memos, publications, reports and subject files on topics with which these individuals were involved.

This collection of mainly anti-Semitic material was compiled by a Jewish librarian of German descent who infiltrated the pro-Nazi community developing in New York City in the years leading up to World War II. The bulk of the collection consists of publications and printed matter, with the notable exception of narrative reports that describe first-hand experiences and observations of Nazi-affiliated events. Document types include advertisements, event announcements, books, clippings, correspondence, magazines and newspapers, travel guides, political memorabilia, and other print ephemera.

This collection contains the papers of the lawyer and historian Franz Kobler (1882-1965), with the major focus of the papers here on his historical works. Included here are manuscript drafts, correspondence, official papers, notes, newspaper clippings, and a few photographs.

Newspaper editor and publisher Philip Slomovitz was an active member of the Detroit Jewish community, and the Zionist movement. During his 40+ years as head of The Jewish News, the Detroit-based newspaper he founded, Slomovitz addressed issues of concern to the American Jewish community, and was a relentless campaigner against instances of discrimination and anti-Semitism.
