This collection documents the life of pharmacist and entrepreneur Arthur Abelmann. It contains materials about his personal and professional life, including his service in World War I. The bulk of the material concerns Chemiewerk, the pharmaceutical firm he founded in 1920 and cultivated for 13 years. In 1933, Abelmann was forced to resign his leading position and then to sell the company in one of the earliest cases of "Aryanization."

This collection contains the archival papers of Arthur Rath. Most of it consists of correspondence with friends and family members. Primary topics of the collection are Arthur's life in Switzerland towards the end of World War II and the decades immediately after, correspondence with friends who were also Jewish refugees from Germany after the war, and Arthur Rath's life decisions following the displacement of his family during the war.

The Barbara and Peter Rothholz Family Collection contains documents and photographs of the families of Peter Rothholz and his wife, Barbara Peters Rothholz (originally Baerbel Gruenpeter), along with papers of the extended family.

The collection contains Bernard G. Richards personal and official correspondence, papers from his involvement with the American Jewish Congress and Jewish Information Bureau, published and unpublished writings, publications collected by Richards, articles about Richards and his activities, correspondence and articles from testimonial dinners in honor of Richards, and photographs. Significant correspondents include Joseph Barondess, Louis D. Brandeis, Vladimir Jabotinsky, J.L. Magnes, Louis Marshall, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jacob H. Schiff, Philip Slomovitz, Arthur Hays Sulzberger, Morris Winchovsky, and Stephen S. Wise.

Bernhard Kahn dedicated 50 years of his life to welfare activities in order to help distressed Jews. Among others he worked for the Hilfsverein der deutschen Juden, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Comittee and the American Joint Reconstruction Foundation .The collection contains personal as well as professional correspondence, articles on Bernhard Kahn’s work and biography, lectures and speeches by him and a number of official documents such as letters of consignment, citizenship papers and educational and professional certificates.

The Bueding family papers contain handwritten and printed original documents of the Bueding, Goldschmidt, Cohnheim and Mardorf families in Kassel, Hesse, including royal commissions, letters of protection, business matters, and family histories. They also hold documentation collected by the Bueding family about Jewish history in Kassel, especially about the history of French Jews, from the Middle Ages until the 19th century.

The collection contains the records of the Foreign Committee of the Bund, a Jewish political party espousing socialist democratic ideology as well as cultural Yiddishism and Jewish national autonomism. While a Central Committee led the Bund in the Russian empire, outside of Russia the party was represented by its Foreign Committee, which was based in Geneva, Switzerland. During the period when the Bund had no legal status or was semi-legal in Russia, the Foreign Committee assumed many important organizational functions of the party apparatus.

Genealogical tables and accompanying materials (correspondence, clippings, notes, etc.) pertaining largely to the Huttenbauer family (maternal side) and the Levy family (paternal side).

The collection documents the work of Carl Misch (1896-1965), a German journalist who immigrated to the United States, via France during the Second World War. The bulk of this collection consists of clippings of articles, opinion pieces, and nonfiction book reviews that he contributed to various German-language publications while living first in Germany (1921-1933) and then abroad (1936-1965). As a prominent émigré intellectual, many of the clippings and correspondence that Misch collected cover the lives, work, emigration, and death of numerous Germans living in exile. The collection includes correspondences, clippings, and manuscripts relating to the academic works in the fields of history and political science that he published during his tenure at at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. A small selection of materials are about Misch himself; these items include clippings, photographs, official documents, and obituaries.

The Carola S. Trier collection consists of the personal documents of Carola S. Trier. The bulk of the collection consists of her memoirs, covering a period from 193 to 1942. The collection also includes Carola S. Trier's personal and official correspondence and personal documents, as well as notes and notebooks by her father, Eduard Strauss. Also included clippings, mostly from The New York Times and Aufbau.

The David Balter Ccollection includes materials pertaining to World War II. The bulk of the collection consists of printed materials: brochures, newspapers, magazines, and clippings, and German propaganda leaflets. Other materials include photographs, small amount of personal correspondence, and General Orders of the 79th Infantry Division.

The Edgar Trier Collection documents Edgar Trier’s military career, first as a member of the French Foreign Legion and then as a soldier in the Unites States Army. The collection consists of personal materials as well as Army related materials such as personal correspondence, memoirs, military orders and reports, certificates, photographs, and clippings.

The Elisabeth Lunau Collection documents Elisabeth Lunau’s personal life and her research on her father, Ludwig Marum, a Minister in the Weimer Republic and a prominent figure in the Socialist movement; the collection also documents Elisabeth Lunau’s research on her family’s genealogy. The collection consists of correspondence, vital-, immigration-, and financial documents, photographs, lists, genealogical tables, manuscripts, notes, and printed materials.

The Emil Herz Collection contains papers of Emil Herz's extended family, especially of members of the Grünewald, Oppenheim, and Steg families. Much of the collection consists of family correspondence. In addition there is a sermon, copies of pages of a prayer book, and a note and clipping related to the family genealogy.

This collection documents the political and professional work of left-wing pacifist and academic statistician Emil J. Gumbel (1891-1966). It includes his political and professional writings, scrapbooks of printed material about him, and subject files concerned with Nazi terror and World War Two.

The collection contains play manuscripts, programs, playbills, posters, photographs, correspondence, agreements, scrapbooks, clippings, printed ephemera, and memorabilia relating to Yiddish theater primarily in the early twentieth century, especially the interwar period. Also included are items of printed ephemera related to Yiddish film, Hebrew theater, and a broad range of Jewish performers, including cantors, singers and dancers. Geographically, the materials originate predominantly in Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe, including parts of the Russian Empire and, later, the Soviet Union; and, to a lesser extent, the United States, especially New York City. Also included are materials from Western Europe, Palestine (Eretz Israel), South America, and other regions around the world. Among the theater personalities represented in the collection with significant amounts of material are Herz Grossbard, David Herman, Joseph Winogradoff, Rudolf Zaslavsky, Zygmunt Turkow, Jonas Turkow, Moyshe Lipman, Ida Kaminska, and Esther Rachel Kaminska. The theater groups best represented include the Varshever Yidisher Kunst-Teater (VYKT; Warsaw Yiddish Art Theater), founded by Zygmunt Turkow and Ida Kaminska; the Vilna Troupe; Yung Teater / Nay Teater (Warsaw; Vilna), under the direction of Michael Weichert; the Moscow State Yiddish Theater (known by its Russian acronym "GOSET"); Maurice Schwartz's Yiddish Art Theatre, of New York; and the Hebrew theater "Habimah." A wide variety of other professional as well as amateur theater groups are represented with smaller amounts of material.

The collection contains documents, correspondence, unpublished writings, sketches, photos, and various flyers, postcards, posters, and a substantial amount of family documents.

This collection centers on the experiences of Florence Marx Ross during a trip to Belgium, France and Germany from July 1913-November 1914, documented in her frequent correspondence to her family, daily diary entries, and newspaper clippings. In addition, the collection holds a number of postcards, some photographs and publications related to the beginning of World War I in Belgium.

The bulk of the collection consists of materials pertaining to the Friedlander/Friedlaender families, descendents of the prominent banker and member of the Prussian House of Lords, Dagobert Friedlaender (1826-1904) from Kolmar, Posen (Chodzież, Poland). Also included are correspondence and other materials, documenting the efforts of Frieda Friedlander to assist the work of OSE in France and in the United States after World War II.

The Gerda Dittmann Collection includes personal and business materials pertaining to the Dittmann and Ottensooser families and consists of correspondence, personal, business, and legal documents, clippings, poetry, and notebooks.

This collection contains the work of Sephardic scholar and poet David Fintz Altabé. The bulk of this collection consists of lectures and several poems, in addition to a newspaper clipping.

Sephardic House was established in 1978 as a correction to the often-overlooked contributions of the Sephardic community to American-Jewish culture. The Records of Sephardic House documents the administrative, programming, and publishing activities of Sephardic House since its founding. Such documents include financial records, meeting minutes, correspondence, artist portfolios, press releases, photographs, slides, and much more.

This is a constructed collection of items related to the internment and concentration camps in France in operation during World War II. The bulk of the materials relate to the Gurs camp and stem from 1940-1942. Other camps mentioned are St. Cyprien and Vichy. Materials include correspondence, photographs, personal accounts, lists of prisoners, a death certificate, clippings, reports and minutes of relief organizations, poems and songs, and reproductions (photographs, photocopies, and slides) of artwork depicting Gurs.

This collection documents the life of Hannah Busoni (née Apfel) and her husband, the artist Rafaello Busoni, son of the renowned composer, Ferruccio Busoni. The collection consists primarily of personal correspondence and photographs, but also includes Portuguese newspaper clippings. There are also four court cases pertaining to the defense attorney, Dr. Alfred Apfel, Hannah's father.

Harry Sugarman was a Jewish soldier who served as a private during World War I. This collection consists of written materials, mainly personal letters, relating to his time in the military.

The collection documents the work of Henry Besso and reflects various aspects of his professional life, personal research and writings in the field of Sephardic culture, Spanish language and linguistics, and Sephardic and Spanish history. Collection also documents Besso's involvement with Sephardic organizations and communities. Collection includes audio materials, brochures, booklets, clippings, conference procedures, correspondence, government publications, minutes, notes, photographs, printed matter, reports, speeches, and writings and translations by Henry Besso and others.

The John Kallir Collection contains documents regarding the life of John Kallir, his father Otto Kallir, their ancestors, and genealogical material.

Joseph Roth was one of the most prominent Austrian writers of the first half of the 20th century. Particularly his novels and newspaper essays gained him the respect of contemporary critics. Joseph Roth's papers at the Leo Baeck Institute Archives consist of handwritten and typewritten manuscripts of novels, novellas, short stories, and essays, including mostly complete manuscripts of his works Die Hundert Tage (The Ballad of the Hundred Days), Büste des Kaisers (The Bust of the Emperor), and his 'Trozki' novel Der stumme Prophet (The Silent Prophet). Joseph Roth's journalistic work is also well represented. There are a few personal items and over one hundred photographs of Joseph Roth and his wife Friederike. The Joseph Roth collection also contains correspondence with family and publishers, clippings about Joseph Roth, and reviews of his work. The addenda mostly consist of invitations to conferences and exhibitions, and scholarly articles on Joseph Roth's work and life.

This collection documents the family history of art historian Julius S. Held (1905-2002), who was born in Mosbach, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1934. The bulk of the collection consists of personal family correspondence. Other materials include genealogical tables, a few business and educational records, personal notes, a few anti-Semitic flyers, clippings, a ketubah, and a portrait of Rabbi David Sinzheim.
