Records of the Yemenite Jewish Federation of America
This collection contains the minutes, correspondence and financial records of the Yemenite Jewish Federation of America, an organization that aims to provide cultural enrichment and financial support to Jews of Yemenite heritage living in Israel and the United States. There is also a fair amount of information about grants that the Federation sought, their scholarship program and various fundraisers and events that the YJFA sponsored or participated in.
Sephardic Home for the Aged Records
The Sephardic Home for the Aged served as a nursing and rehabilitation center for the Sephardic Jewish community of New York City from 1951-2014. While this collection spans the institution’s history, the bulk of the records stems from 1988-2011. The largest portions of the collection are the photographs and Board of Directors files. Also included are the by-laws and constitution, general administrative files, event files, and files of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sephardic Home Association (LASHA).
The Papers of Eli S. Malka
The primary contents of these papers are a collection of communal records created by the Sudan Jewish Community (approx. 183 pp.). These records deal with the lives and interactions of the Sudan Jewish Community, including such materials as Betrothals (Ketubot), Marriages (Kiddushin), and Divorces (Gittin). These records were initiated by Rabbi Eliahu Hazzan Chief Rabbi of Alexandria, and continued by Rabbi Shlomo Malka (Rabbi from 1906 until 1949). Originals are to be found in the Jewish Nation and University Library in Jerusalem; its signature JNUL Heb 4 7306/I-2. Copies are in the library of Beit Hatefsoth in Tel Aviv, and Ben Zvi Institute in Jerusalem. Includes photo-copies of: A) Betrothals (Ketubot) B) Divorces (Gittin) C) Marriages D) Conversions
The Papers of Sam Camhi
The Papers of Sam Camhi are comprised of correspondence, research, and newsletters from his involvement in numerous Jewish organizations, especially those related to Sephardim. Also included are various audio recordings of Sephardic folksongs.
The Records of the Quincentennial Foundation
The Records of the Quincentennial Foundation contain the agenda of the office set up to coordinate activities related to the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the coming of Jewish people to the Ottoman Empire in 1492. The Quincentennial Foundation supported a number of cultural and educational events and attempted to disseminate knowledge about the Jewish people in Turkey. In order to effectively target a broad audience the Foundation cooperated with a public relations agency and the correspondence with this company constitutes a great deal of the collection. Most of the documents are correspondence and various reports.
Walter P. Zenner Papers
The papers of Walter P. Zenner contain various materials reflecting the customs and habits of Sephardic Jews, particularly those with their roots in Syria. The collection contains transcripts of interviews from anthropological research carried out in Israel, USA, and Britain. It also holds a number of off-prints, photocopies, and newspaper clippings.
Zeva Oelbaum Photographs
This collection contains photographs of Jewish communities in Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, and Morocco taken in 1976 by photographer Zeva Oelbaum. The entire collection was digitized and returned to the donor; the items are therefore accessible online only.
