Addenda to the Joseph Braunstein Collection
Addenda to the Joseph Braunstein Collection hold the private and professional documents of Dr. Joseph Braunstein, a musicologist and amateur mountaineer from Vienna. The addenda cover Braunstein’s successful emigration to the United States, as well as his activism at “Alpenverein Donauland” in Austria during the 1920s and 1930s. They further document many of his travels abroad.
Ephraim Salomon and David Salomon Unger Collection
This collection contains original official documents pertaining to two brothers, Ephraim Salomon Unger (1789-1870) and David Salomon Unger (1801- ), both renowned mathematicians in Germany in the 19th century. Also included are photocopies of documents pertaining to both brothers as well as members of their family.
Erich Seligmann Collection
The Erich Seligmann Collection documents the noteworthy events in the life of this bacteriologist and hygienist, holding material on both his personal and professional life. The material focuses on the events of the 1930s and 1940s, including the loss of his position in Berlin, his immigration to the United States and World War II. The collection consists of diaries, a family history, professional documentation, a small amount of correspondence and a few family trees.
Ernst Pincus Collection
The Ernst Pincus Collection contains papers and correspondence of the lawyer Ernst Pincus and his wife Käte (née Zorek). The collection also includes some papers and correspondence of their parents, family members, and friends, along with family photographs and genealogical information.
Eugen Kullmann Collection
This collection holds papers of the philosopher Karl Joël and of various members of the Philippson family. Karl Joël's material includes personal and professional correspondence and a considerable amount of his notes, along with newspaper clippings on him and a few articles. Philippson family material largely focuses on Phöbus, Ludwig and Moritz Philippson's family correspondence and writing. Also present are letters of other family members, a few official documents and notes.
Eugen Kullmann Estate Collection
The Eugen Kullmann Estate Collection contains documentation of the professional life and personal connections of the philosophy and religion professor and scholar Eugen Kullman. Much of the collection is made up of his correspondence from others, but there are also many notes related to his teaching and research along with professional and official documents. Notes and papers of the philosopher Karl Joël also form a significant portion of this collection. The collection includes notes such as research and lecture notes as well as notebooks; extensive correspondence from others, including family, friends, and colleagues to Eugen Kullmann; and official, professional, and personal documents.
Fritz Bamberger Collection
This collection documents the life and scholarly interests of Fritz Bamberger, scholar and former vice-president of the Leo Baeck Institute. Much of the collection focuses on his professional and scholarly activities. It includes many newspaper clippings and articles, official documents, correspondence, a scrapbook, family papers, a few photographs and notes.
Herbert Bloch Collection
The Herbert Bloch Collection contains the personal papers of the classicist and medievalist Herbert Bloch, a Harvard professor. Prominent is correspondence between himself and his family, which mentions not only family news and the deaths, deportations, and experiences of family members but also references his own research, writing, and teaching. In addition to family correspondence is correspondence with colleagues and friends, former neighbors, and legal and financial correspondence. Other papers in the collection include poetry, educational certificates and diplomas, material relating to Herbert Bloch's academic career, family trees, obituaries, and photographs.
Kaiser Family Collection
The collection traces the history of the Kaiser family and the lives of its members over the course of the 20th century through correspondence, documents, writings, family history information, and photographs.
Loewen Family Berlin Collection
This collection consists of papers of the Loewen family, including Samuel Liepmann Loewen and Liepmann (Leopold) Loewen. It includes personal, business and official papers, correspondence, genealogy, a collection of wax seals, some newspaper clippings, art prints, and a few photographs.
Margaret Strauss Berman Family Collection
This collection holds the papers of members of Margaret Strauss Berman's family in several towns in the Palatinate. It is primarily composed of personal documents, like photographs, biographical texts and a diary, and it contains also some newspaper clippings and a flyer.
Richard Beer-Hofmann Collection
The Richard Beer-Hofmann Collection documents the correspondence of Richard Beer-Hofmann and other family members. It contains letters from Ludwig August Frankl, Hermann Struck, Fritz Mauthner, and Hedwig Mauthner. Letters from several family members, for example Katharina, Rosa and Hieronymus Beer, Alois und Bertha Hofmann and Agnes and Sigmund Beer can be found in this collection as well. Photos of Richard and Paula Beer-Hofmann, personal items, transcriptions of correspondence, books, a bible and certificates are held in this collection as well as family trees, drawings and clippings.
Salier Family Collection
The Salier Family Collection holds papers of members of the Salier family as well as related families, such as the Alexander, Lipmann, and Lehmann families. The collection consists primarily of official, educational, and professional documents of family members, along with a small amount of family correspondence, a few photographs, family writing, newspaper clippings and articles, a cookbook, and a friendship album.
Steiner Family Collection
The Steiner Family Collection tells the story of the physician Hans Steiner (né Levi), his wife Brigitte (née Marquard), their children Nicholas and Ursula, and related family members. Most prominent in this collection are the family members' memoirs. The collection also holds family documents, including educational and official documents, family correspondence, family photographs, and some family trees.
Walter, Greta and Karl Loewenstein Collection
This collection holds papers of members of the Loewenstein family, especially Walter and Karl Loewenstein. Among the papers here are examples of Walter Loewenstein's writing, documentation of life in Rietberg in Westphalia (Germany) during the late 1930s and early 1940s, and correspondence concerning the fate of several family members during this time. Papers relating to Karl Loewenstein focus on his wartime activities. The genealogy of the Brandenstein family is also represented here along with a few papers of other family members. The collection consists of unpublished manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, official and restitution documentation, notebooks and notes, genealogical research, and fliers.
