This collection contains the personal and professional papers of Abraham Klausner, including articles written by and about him, research materials for his articles and his memoir, correspondence, and Klausner’s personal and military records. These materials reflect his active involvement with Displaced Persons and the DP Camps in Postwar Germany as well as his sometimes complicated relationships with the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). The collection also contains issues of Fun Letstn Hurbn (From the Last Extermination).

The bulk of the collection contains documents generated by the Judenrats of the Vilna ghetto during Nazi occupation. The Yiddish poets Abraham Sutzkever and Szmerke Kaczerginski, interned in the Vilna Ghetto before escaping to the forests as partisans, were instrumental in the removal of this collection from Vilna and its subsequent transfer to the YIVO Archives in New York. The collection is therefore named in their honor.

The collection contains comprehensive unofficial transcripts for the proceedings of the trial State of Israel vs. Adolf Eichmann including the verdict and appeal sessions before the Supreme Court. Series II contains select documentary evidence. The vast majority of the transcripts are in German, a small amount are in French or English and some sessions are also available in Hebrew.

This collection contains the records of the Society for the History of Czechoslovak Jews, an organization founded in 1961, in New York City, by members of the Joseph Popper unit of B’nai B’rith, to foster and disseminate knowledge about the history and culture of Jews in the Czech and Slovak lands. Along with the Joseph Popper unit and, later, the Holocaust Survivors of Slovakia, the society sponsored an annual memorial service held in New York City to honor Czechoslovak Jews who perished in the Holocaust. A majority of the records are from the tenure of Rabbi Norman Patz as president (1994-2008). The materials primarily comprise correspondence, and items related to the annual memorial service, including texts of addresses, and yizkor memorial booklets. Also included are meeting minutes, letters to the membership, financial reports, writings, speeches, obituaries, clippings, photographs, and printed ephemera. The society's correspondence reflects its participation in cultural events related to Czech and Slovak Jewish history, as well as its relationship to the Jewish communities in the Czech Republic and, to a lesser extent, Slovakia; some correspondence with members contains genealogical information.

This collection contains the personal papers of Arnold Stein (1890-1974) and Werner A. Stein (1925-2017), a Jewish German-born father and son who fled Berlin, Germany in 1939 with their immediate family, Arnold’s wife Gertrude and daughter Marianne. The family settled in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York, where Arnold opened a printing business.

The collection includes correspondence and documentation of Arnold’s printing business in Berlin; his World War I German army service; his marriage with Gertrude Rosenthal; and the family’s emigration from Germany. Also documented are Werner’s schooling; United States army service; longtime involvement with the German-Jewish newspaper Aufbau; marriage to Helga Marcus and their lives in Great Neck, New York with their two daughters, Susan and Barbara. The collection also includes documentation on Stein, Rosenthal and Marcus genealogy and family history.

This collection is composed of the papers of Arthur Bluhm, chief rabbi of Krefeld, Germany between 1928 and 1938, and rabbi of Temple B'nai Israel in Amarillo, Texas. It documents his professional life and also holds records related to the Krefeld Jewish Community and the Jews in Westphalia. In addition, the collection contains the papers of Abraham Sutro, chief rabbi of Westphalia from 1815-1869.

This collection documents the life and work of the economist Arthur Prinz. It is comprised of correspondence, documents, diaries, clippings, research notes, index cards, and books and offprints. Information on various topics, especially immigration and emigration during the 1930s, Jews and the German economy, and Marxist economics will also be found here.

The collection is comprised of photographs of various provenances related to the lives of Jewish displaced persons (DPs) in the period immediately following the Second World War, from 1945 to 1952. The photographs pertain to DP camps and communities in the Allied occupation zones in Germany, Austria, and Italy, primarily those established by the American and British military, and administered by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, and, later, the International Refugee Organization. Diverse aspects of daily life among the DPs are depicted, such as school, work, recreation, and vocational training, including many activities sponsored by Jewish voluntary organizations, especially World ORT and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Also depicted are cultural activities such as theater, children’s performances, Jewish holiday celebrations and parades, and commemorative events honoring those who died in the Holocaust. The photographs capture leaders of the Jewish DP zonal and camp committees, DP police, and Zionist living collectives (kibbutzim), as well as notable military, political, and cultural personalities of the period, such as Lucius D. Clay, Fiorello LaGuardia, David Ben-Gurion, Yitzhak Gruenbaum, and H. Leivick. The photographs also reflect political and historical developments, including the major congresses of the DP leaderships in Germany, Austria, and Italy; protest demonstrations concerning British policies regulating immigration to Palestine; and events held upon the founding of the state of Israel in 1948.

This collection of posters includes approximately 1,000 rare or unique items pertaining to over 100 displaced persons (DP) camps and centers in Germany, Austria, and Italy, dating primarily from 1946 to 1952. Comprised of approximately 60% handpainted and 40% printed items, it includes posters produced by diverse Jewish groups within individual camps, such as administrative and cultural committees, sports clubs, Zionist and religious groups, and landsmanshaftn; as well as organizations active throughout the camps, including the Jewish central committees in the respective countries, the World ORT Union, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the Jewish National Fund, and the Jewish Agency. A small number of items also document activities of the revived Jewish communities in the city centers of Munich and Vienna. Many of the posters use not only language but also color, graphic design, and pictorial and figurative elements to engage their audience with calls to entertainment, lectures, protests, and commemorations.

This collection contains various materials related to the Łódź Ghetto which were originally part of the Bund Archives. Materials include memoirs and eyewitness accounts, materials created by the German occupiers, notices from the ghetto administration, documents originating with resistance groups, photographs, post-war articles and newspaper clippings about the Łódź Ghetto, internal ghetto correspondence, and various ephemera items, such as an armband, ghetto money and various work permits.

The file contains documents pertaining to the connection between the Hebrew Teachers Union, represented by Ephraim Ginsberg, and the German Teachers Union (Arbeitgemeinschaft Deutscher Lehrerverbände), and comprises two folders.

The Eric Zielenziger Collection includes materials dealing with various members of the Zielenziger family. The bulk of the collection consists of Ruth Zielenziger’s teaching materials. Materials dealing with other members of the family include vital and school documents, certificates, financial documents, some family correspondence, genealogical tables, and a large number of Kurt Zielenziger’s manuscripts.

This collection holds personal and official documents, correspondence, genealogical information, biographical manuscripts and photographs related to the Feith, Lyon and Katz families. Most of the documents pertain to Erna Bonette, Fred Gustav and their son Henry Arthur Katz. The collection focuses on their lives in Germany and the United States as well as their emigration via Luxemburg and Portugal. It also holds materials pertaining to members of the extended Katz and Lyon families and their ancestors, including the Feith family. Also included is material about a Mikveh from the 15th century in Siegburg, Germany.

The Erna Katzenell collection consists of documents about Katzenell's life in hiding during the Second World War and her ultimate rescue. Amongst others, it includes documents about her rescuers, clippings, correspondence, photographs, and transcripts of interviews.

This collection represents a lifetime of genealogical research by Ernst R. Stiefel about his family history. Files about individuals and families contain documents that are almost entirely photocopies from various German archives. Various family trees and photocopies of articles about Jews in Germany are also in this collection.

This collection contains the papers of Ernest W. Michel, Holocaust Survivor Journalist and public speaker,including clippings of newspaper articles written by and about Michel, correspondence between Michel and many important Jewish and political figures and autograph files, which Michel collected. Many of these files concern Michel’s Holocaust experiences, speaking engagements, the World Gathering of Jewish Holocaust Survivors, and Michel’s work with the United Jewish Appeal.

The Eugen Neter Collection documents the professional and personal life of the Mannheim pediatrician Eugen Neter and centers on his professional work and postwar life in Israel. Notable in the collection are the examples of his writing, the biographical articles about him and the material on the Gurs concentration camp. The collection additionally includes some of his correspondence, papers and correspondence of other family members such as Mia Neter, and newspaper clippings on other individuals.

The collection contains contains various materials pertaining to Eugen (Yitzhak) Neter, collected by Shlomo Marcus.

This collection pertains to the life of Eva Kahn (née Krafft) and members of her extended family. It encompasses documents of her life as a child and teenager in Eger (today Cheb, Czech Republic) and later in Chicago, Illinois. Included in her personal papers are school materials and a friendship book. The collection furthermore documents the lives of family members of Eva Kahn and her husband Stephen Martin Kahn with correspondence, photographs, a baby journal and an autograph album. Two letters written by Eva Kahn's cousin Martin Wels who was killed in the Holocaust are part of the collection.

Subjects found in this collection include the genealogy of the Freilich and Greenberg families, the professional life of Felix Freilich, and the city of Altenburg, Germany.

The Frances and Gustave Kauders Family Collection holds the papers of this couple, as well as of members of the Kauders family, and correspondence from the Schostal family. Topics found in the collection include the immigration of Frances and Gustave Kauders, some details of their early lives as expressed in family correspondence, and the failed emigration and subsequent deportation of members of the Schostal family. The collection includes family correspondence, official and educational documents, and correspondence with official agencies regarding immigration and restitution with related documentation.

The Fred Emil Katz Collection holds material on the Katz family of Oberlauringen, Germany. Most notable in this collection are the articles and exhibitions that document what happened to the Jewish families of Oberlauringen during the Holocaust. In addition, the collection includes personal correspondence, photograph albums, and a book.

This collection documents the life and accomplishments of the Goldmark family, whose most famous members were the two composers Carl Goldmark (1830-1915), who embraced Viennese musical life with colleagues such as Brahms, Liszt, Wagner and Rubinstein, and his nephew Rubin Goldmark (1872-1936), who has been honored for his services to American music, as a prolific composer, and composition department chair at (amongst others) the newly created Juilliard School of Music. The collection contains a large amount of correspondence, but also includes newspaper clippings, musical journal articles, concert programmes and notes, a libretto, a citizenship certificate, obituaries, eulogies and photographs.
