Aaron Lopez Papers
Aaron Lopez (1731-1782) was a member of the Converso (converted) community of Portugal. In order to freely practice Judaism, he and his family left Portugal and relocated to British North America, settling in Newport, Rhode Island and later, Massachusetts. He began a successful mercantile business and eventually became a key supplier of the American revolutionary forces.
The collection contains numerous shipping records along with correspondence and accounts with merchants, mercantile families, and firms including Henry Lloyd of Boston, Henry Cruger of Bristol, George Hayley of London, William Stead of Sheffield and New Bedford whaler Joseph Rotch. The collection contains manifests, mercantile accounts, notations, correspondence and inventories of estates for several of the children of Aaron Lopez.
Aaron Louzada papers
Contains briefs filed by Louzada against Evert Duyckink (1746), John Deare (1747), and the estate of John Parker (1756) for the non-payment of debts.
Aaron Reuben Charney papers
Collection consists of minutes of meetings at the Congregation Beth Abraham, Bayonne, N.J., 1918-1938; and a marriage register maintained by Charney when he was rabbi in Revere Beach, MA (1921-1924), and at the Congregation Beth Abraham in Bayonne (1928-1956).
Abba Eban collection
The collection consists of 4 items relating to Abba Eban's career as one of Israel's foremost statesmen. Contains a pamphlet of a 1955 address delivered at University of Notre Dame entitled "Modern Israel," and a reprint of an essay on Jewish Heritage from the 1962 New Jewish Encyclopedia. Also contains two programs from events held in Eban's honor, one, a 1959 testimonial dinner upon Eban's return to Israel after 10 years in the United States while serving as Israel's representative to the United Nations and her Ambassador to the United States, which is autographed by Eban. The second is a program from a memorial lecture at the Monroe Temple of Liberal Judaism, NY, at which Eban was a guest speaker in 1987.
Abba Hillel Silver collection
Collection consists of 7 items relating to Silver's efforts to further the Zionist cause during the 1940s and 1950s. It contains a 1940 letter from Silver as Chairman of the United Palestine Appeal to the Joint Distribution Committee with respect to a proposed joint fundraising campaign. Also included are 3 pamphlets relating to the controversy of 1944-45 regarding what the wartime approach of the Zionist's cause to the American government should be and over which Silver resigned as co-chairman of the American Zionist Emergency Council due to his advocacy of a more aggressive approach than was being taken. A 1955 Zionist Organization of America bulletin, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Jews in North America, which contains an essay by Silver entitled "Zionism in American Jewry" is also included. Also contains documents regarding two tribute dinners held in Silver's honor, one in 1947 on his departure to Palestine, and one in 1954 sponsored by the Brookline-Brighton-Newton Zionist District in Massachusetts.
Abe Cohen papers
Contains the copies of letters of Abe Cohen to his family in Liverpool, of his experiences in Buenos Aires, Argentina where he had gone to try to recuperate from Tubercolosis.
Abe Fortas papers
Consists of three signed excerpts from his pamphlet, "Concerning dissent and civil disobedience," and a letter to Philip Sang declining an invitation to participate in the dedication of the new headquarters of the American Jewish Historical Society.
Abe Grubère Papers
The Abe Grubère collection documents the work of Abe Grubère (also known as Abraham Gruber), a New York City fashion designer, active in the field of fashion from the 1920s to the 1960s. The papers reflect the work of Grubère as a designer and also document his involvement with the Central High School for Needle Trades, where he helped to organize a class that was held at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in the summer of 1942. Although the bulk of the documents found in the collection consists of sketches, the collection also includes clippings, booklets, correspondence, financial documentation, and materials pertaining to Grubère's teaching activities.
Abel Eliyahu Abelson Letter
Consists of a letter written by Abelson from Nemaksht, Lithuania, in a beautiful script and unusually elegant language, to his friend Louis Wigdor in Missouri, describing his personal condition and some aspects of Jewish life in Eastern Europe and inquiring about conditions and job opportunities in America. Of interest are references to anti-Semitism in Eastern Europe and the revival of Hebrew as a living language.
Abendanone family papers
Consists of two documents from Grave Abendanone, one undated, describing the family relationships and the other consisting of a bequest to Jacob De La Motta; the third document is the oath of American citizenship administered to David Abendanone.

Papers of Abraham and Cecilia Grunhut, including a letter from Golda Meir and a share certificate in the Jewish Colonial trust issued to Cecilia Grunhut in 1900.

Abraham Ellstein (1907-1963) Papers
This collection contains Hebrew, Yiddish and English sheet music compositions, programs, playbills, and reviews, with extensive files relating to the operas "The Golem" and "The Thief and the Hangman" and the musical "Great to Be Alive." There are also some photographs and correspondence.
Abraham Hart papers
The collection contains a power of attorney for the firm of Carey & Hart, signed by Hart (1830); two letters to the firm on literary matters (1849, 1853); two loan certificates; and a letter from Thomas Carlyle to Hart in Philadelphia, discussing a royalty payment for Carlyle's miscellanie printed by Hart. Letter contains mention of Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Abraham I. H. Bernal Letter
In this letter to Judah L. Hackenburg of Philadelphia, Bernal writes of his efforts to secure a teaching position in Louisville, KY and mentions a Jewish seminary in Louisville "with 30 to 40 pupils."
Abraham Jonas estate and legal papers
The majority of the collection consists of Jonas' will and the papers related to settlement of his estate. Of interest is his exhortation to his children not to dispute his leaving the entire estate to his wife. Simeon P. Cohen was a witness to his will.
Abraham Klausner Papers
This collection contains the personal and professional papers of Abraham Klausner, including articles written by and about him, research materials for his articles and his memoir, correspondence, and Klausner’s personal and military records. These materials reflect his active involvement with Displaced Persons and the DP Camps in Postwar Germany as well as his sometimes complicated relationships with the Joint Distribution Committee and the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). The collection also contains issues of Fun Letstn Hurbn (From the Last Extermination).
Abraham Liebmann Family Collection
The collection mainly pertains to Abraham Liebmann and his son Wilhelm, as well as on Abraham's grandson Siegfried and his great-grandson Albert, including their wives. It contains various documents, poetry and a large amount of correspondence from the 19th century. Prominent topics are related to the education, professional and military careers, politics, and marital lives of the family members. Also included are two restitution cases.
Abraham Lincoln Funeral Procession Broadside
This collection contains a broadside giving the order of procession honoring the remains of President Lincoln as they passed through Chicago en route to Springfield, Illinois. Among the organizations listed are the Chevra Kaddisha Ubikkur Cholim and the Hebrew Benevolent Association.
