The collection contains materials pertaining to over 600 landsmanshaftn. Included are: charters, certificates of incorporation, constitutions, minutes, financial records, membership records, burial records, publications, clippings, and more.

Biographical / Historical
This subject collection has been formed to house fragmentary records of Jewish benevolent societies and federations known under the name of landsmanshaftn. The individual landsmanshaftn lacked sufficient documents to constitute record groups in their own right. These mutual aid societies were established by immigrants usually, but not exclusively, from the same villages, towns and cities in Eastern Europe.
