Biographical / Historical

Major Yiddish actor who attained great popularity at the turn of the century. Adler's career began circa 1879 in one of Abraham Goldfaden's theater companies. He subsequently performed in London, Chicago, Warsaw, Lodz, Lemberg (Lvov), and New York. Adler specialized in the dramatic and heroic roles of the plays of Jacob Gordin. Born in Odessa. Left for London, circa 1883. Settled in New York circa 1890.
