Biographical / Historical

Yiddish writer, playwright, lawyer. Received a doctoral degree in law at the University of Paris at the Sorbonne. During World War II was active in the French underground movement. Active in Yiddish cultural societies and in circles sympathetic to communist ideology. Secretary of the organizing committee of the World Congress for Jewish Culture, 1937. Author of plays which were performed in France, Holland, Sweden, Poland, Rumania, Israel, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and New York. Contributed essays and plays to Naye prese (Paris), Oyfsnay (Paris), Unzer aynikayt (Paris), Yidishe kultur (New York), Zamlungen (New York), Yidishe shriftn (Warsaw), Folksshtime (Warsaw). Born in Bialystok. Immigrated to Paris in 1926.
