Biographical / Historical
Founded in New York in 1897 by immigrants from Soroki (Romanian: Soroca), Moldavia. Activities included extensive relief work for the home town in the 1920s and 1930s and for landslayt in Israel in the 1950s. Worked with the Soroker Relief in the U.S., a central organization composed of First Soroker Mutual Aid, Soroker Young Friends B.E.L., First Soroker Bessarabier Ladies. Merged in the 1930s with the Seltzer Lodge. Supported the Bessarabian Federation of American Jews after World War II.
