Scope and Contents
All materials relate to Cantor Jacob Goldstein.
Box 1 contains an extensive collection of newspaper clippings, most of them related to Goldstein's cantorial activities, letters of praise and thanks for his performances, business correspondence, and government correspondence related to his legal status in England. Box 2 contains an album of newspaper clippings. Box 3 contains newspaper clippings, a few photographs of Cantor Goldstein, and letters.

Biographical / Historical
Israel Goldstein is a cantor who served as director of the School of Sacred Music at Hebrew Union College in New York. He is the son of Cantor Jacob Goldstein, head cantor of the Great Choral Synagogue in Vilna. He also served as the minister of the New Synagogue in London and performed extensively in England, the United States, Europe, and Argentina. The elder Goldstein received a British certificiate of naturalization in 1939. He then served as cantor at Agudath Israel in Caldwell, NJ. Jacob Goldstein died on May 11, 1961.
