Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of fragmentary and ephemeral materials relating to Jewish life in countries around the world. The following countries and regions are included: Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bessarabia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iraq, Israel (Palestine), Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States, Uruguay, USSR, and Yugoslavia. Materials include correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes of meetings, printed materials, posters, legal documents, newspaper clippings, financial records, and other documents relating to Jewish life in countries all over the world between the years 1778-1957. Topics relate to cultural and educational activities and organizations, libraries, financial matters, political parties and elections, charitable institutions and aid societies, labor organizations and trade unions, religious life, social and youth clubs, and blood libel trials.

Arranged in a single series. Folders are labeled by country and then by topic, organization, or by city or town.
Acquisition Information
This collection was gathered by YIVO when it was headquartered in Vilna and later organized as a record group in YIVO’s headquarters in New York City. It was part of the YIVO, Vilna Archives which was taken by the Germans during World War II and recovered by YIVO, New York City after the war.
Processing Information
The collection was put in new folders and new boxes and given more precise folder titles and dates and collection description was updated by Rachel S. Harrison in 2020.
