Scope and Contents

Over the course of its tenure in Vilna YIVO established a library, archive, and museums, collected diverse materials, developed a graduate program, held exhibitions, conducted research, published scholarly works, and constructed a building to house it all.

This series contains the records of YIVO Vilna’s diverse activities, including establishing a library, archive, and museums, collecting diverse materials, developing a graduate program, holding exhibitions, conducting research, publishing scholarly works, and constructing a building to house it all. Materials comprise correspondence, circulars, reports, minutes, plans and blueprints, lists, inventories and catalogs, pamphlets, brochures, publications, memoirs, articles, newspaper clippings, and collected material.

Some of the subseries contain materials which relate to other YIVO collections such as the Aspirantur (RG 1.3), Autobiographies of Jewish Youth in Poland (RG 4), Siegfried Bernfeld (RG 6), Music (RG 7), and the Esther-Rachel Kaminska Theater Museum (RG 8).
