Biographical Note

Stefanie Perlstein, nee Freimark, was born July 17, 1920 in Wuerzburg. Her brother Max Gerhard (Jerry) Freimark was born Oct 13, 1921. Both left Germany and arrived in Philadelphia Oct 30, 1938. Their parents were Simon Freimark (born May 24, 1883 in Homburg am Main/ Unterfranken; died July 3, 1973 in Philadelphia) and Karola Freimark, nee Stern (Born March 17, 1890 in Wuerzburg; died Dec 7, 1980 in Bridgeton). Simon and Karola Freimark were deported from Bochum to Theresienstadt in July 1942, survived and emigrated to the USA where they arrived onboard the "Marine Perch" on May 24, 1946. Simon and Karola Freimark are both burried at Montefiore cemetary in Philadelphia. Stefanie married Frederick Perlstein (born March 28, 1904; died March 17, 1979) on Oct 12, 1947. Jerry married Margarete Hartmann (from Duesseldorf) on March 30, 1947.

Frederick Perlstein was born in 1904. He was a agronomist and taught in Dortmund until 1935. In 1935, he bought a piece of land in Halbe (Wendisch-Buchholz) with help of the Reichsvertretung, and established the agricultural training camp "Landwerk Halbe". It housed about 60 boys and girls from Makkabi Nazir. On November 10, 1938, the camp was destroyed by the SS. Frederick Perlstein had to flee and managed to emigrate to the US in April 1939. He bought a farm in Bridgeton, NJ, where his wife still lives today. He died in 1979.
