This collection documents Ludwig Liebmann and Bella Liebmann née Katzauer and their family.

Documents relating to Bella Liebmann née Katzauer include birth, marriage, naturalization, and death certificates; a German passport; residence and travel documents; and grade books. Documents relating to Ludwig Liebmann include birth, naturalization, and death certificates; a German passport; and residence and travel documents. Also found here are documents relating to a restitution case concerning his stepmother, Betty Liebmann. Materials relating to Emma Katzauer née Kahn, Jakob Katzauer, and Simon Walter Katzauer include memorial books as well as wedding and death certificates.

Biographical Note

Ludwig Liebmann (1905-1988), son of Simon Liebmann (born 1871) and Katharina née Bruchfeld (born 1875), was born in Guntersblum, Germany. His stepmother Betti Liebmann née Kahn (1883-1942) was murdered in the Holocaust. In 1941, he married Bella née Katzauer (1910-1993). She was born in Obergimpern, Germany, to Emma Katzauer née Kahn (died 1938) and Jakob Katzauer (died 1947). Her brother was Simon Walter Katzauer. Both Ludwig and Bella Liebmann left Germany for New York in 1939 or 1940.
