Howard Posener Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
The collection contains documentation of the lives of Heimann Posener and Jenny née Reinhold in Germany and their emigration from Germany to the United States via England. Included are various identity cards; correspondence pertaining to obtaining American visas and ship tickets; and correspondence pertaining to storing furniture and household goods in Germany and shipping the items to the United States.
Folder 1 contains various forms of identification for Heimann and Jenny Posener, including German identity cards and passports; English employment registration cards and identity cards; and United States identification and immigration identification cards. Also included are documents from the family's life in Germany, including vaccination certificates; receipts; certificate of good conduct; words of a song for the wedding of Heimann Posener and Jenny Reinhold; and photographs of Posener family gravestones.
Folder 2 contains documents pertaining to the Posener family's emigration from Germany to the United States via England. Included in the folder is correspondence pertaining to obtaining American visas; notices regarding appearance at an aliens tribunal; letters of recommendation; and correspondence regarding ship tickets from England to the United States.
Folder 3 contains extensive correspondence pertaining to the storage of the Posener family's furniture and household goods in Germany and their shipment to the United States. The correspondence is accompanied by detailed inventories. Several documents pertaining to restitution payments are also included.

Biographical Note
Heimann (later Henry) Posener, his wife Jenny née Reinhold, and their son Horst (later Howard) emigrated from Germany to the United States via England in 1939. Howard Posener served in the US Army from 1945 to 1947. He earned a dental degree in 1954 and worked as a dentist in Niagara Falls, NY.
