Edgar Trier Collection
Scope and Content Note
The Edgar Trier Collection documents Edgar Trier’s military career, first as a member of the French Foreign Legion and then as a soldier in the Unites States Army. Included here are both personal materials as well as Army related materials.
Personal materials include extensive (almost daily) correspondence between Edgar Trier and his mother Anne Trier and his brother Eric.
Additionally, there is a very detailed memoir written by Edgar Trier describing his time as a member of the French Foreign Legion.
Military-related materials include personal dog tags, military orders and reports, certificates, lists of personnel, photographs depicting Edgar Trier and other members of his company during liberation of France and Germany, German news broadcasts recorded and translated by Edgar Trier, and other military documents such as identification and ration cards, demobilization documents, certificates and decorations.
Other materials include clippings, newspapers and military weeklies.

Biographical Note
Edgar Trier was born 1906 in Frankfurt am Main and immigrated to the United States with his family in the 1930s.
He enlisted in the French Foreign Legion and later served in the American Army in World War II. Trier was fighting in Normandy before being stationed in Germany after the war, amongst others in his native city Frankfurt and in Bad Nauheim.
Edgar Trier was married to Carola Strauss, daughter of Eduard Strauss.
