Scope and Content Note

The Bueding family papers include legal documents like last wills and financial statements belonging to the Bueding, Goldschmidt, Cohnheim and Mardorf families, documentation on the Jewish history in Kassel and original documents of proclamations and contracts between Jews and Christians that were collected by members of the Bueding family. There is also an oversized folder which contains various papers concerning the Jews in Kassel.

The Bueding family is a Jewish family originally from Kassel, Hesse, where they were living in the 18th and 19th century.

Abstract

The Bueding family papers contain handwritten and printed original documents of the Bueding, Goldschmidt, Cohnheim and Mardorf families in Kassel, Hesse, including royal commissions, letters of protection, business matters, and family histories. They also hold documentation collected by the Bueding family about Jewish history in Kassel, especially about the history of French Jews, from the Middle Ages until the 19th century.
