Scope and Content Note

This collection contains the proceedings of the 1. Allgemeiner Jüdischer Studententag (First Jewish Students’ Conference: Vienna, Austria: 1919), as well as two speeches delivered on the 50th anniversary of the student Zionist association Kadimah (1933) and an exchange of letters regarding the unseating of Weizmann as head of the Zionist World Organization.

The bound book of proceedings in the first folder contains full text transcriptions of the speeches and panels presented at the First Jewish Students’ Conference. Several prominent Jewish leaders and representatives of several Jewish organizations are present. Folder two contains an exchange of letters between Blanca Löw and Robert Stricker regarding the unseating of Weizmann as president of the World Zionist Organization, as well as the text of two speeches delivered by Moritz Schnirer and Jakob Weiner at a 50th anniversary celebration for the Kadimah organization in Vienna. The speeches explore the history of the Kadimah organization and of Zionism.

Biographical Note

Jewish national students’ association founded in Vienna in 1882 by Rubin Bierer, Moritz Tobias Schnirer, and Nathan Birnbaum. Encyclopedia Judaica identifies its three core aims as the "struggle against assimilation, Jewish nationhood, and the settlement of Erez Israel as a means toward Jewish independence." Published the periodical "Selbstemanzipation."
