Scope and Content Note
17 small folders, each containing 1-5 handwritten charts (copies reduced in size), representing export statistics of books from the Schocken publishing house. Also included is a chart pertaining to the Jewish training farm on the Schocken estate Gut-Winkel. Recipients of copies included S. [Salman] Schocken; Th. [Theodore] Schocken; Dir. [Jacob] Spiro; and Dr. [Lambert] Schneider. - The folders are wrapped in a plastic folder with a handwritten label, “Schocken Verlag 1931-38”.
An accompanying note in German, dated Feb. 15, 1937, offers explanations about the publishing house’s statistics: Inland-sales are calculated by subtracting sales abroad from the total. - Red figures indicate more returned shipments than outgoing ones. - Countries, authors and their books are listed alphabetically. - Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Greece [and] Luxemburg are listed under “others”; Liechtenstein is listed under Switzerland; Alsace-Lorraine is listed under France.
