Isaak Bechhofer Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains material about Isaak Bechhofer and his relatives, primarily concerning their immigration to the United States in the 1930s and post-war restitution claims.
Materials relating to Isaak Bechhofer include immigration affidavits and supporting documents from Manfred Benedek (a cousin of Martha Bechhofer) and Ferdinand and Regina Hausler (the latter was Martha Bechhofer's sister); professional references; a request for confirmation of Bechhofer's World War One military service; a diploma from the Jersey City public schools; and restitution cases for Isaak Bechhofer (costs of emigration) and Martha Bechhofer (property in Beuthen (today Bytom, Poland) belonging to her sister, Jenny Haas, who was killed in the Holocaust).
The documents relating to Max Sternschein (1911-1980) are five weekly police registration forms for Laupheim, Baden Württemberg. The materials relating to Siegbert Wertheimer include immigration affidavits and supporting documents from Justin Weiker (a cousin) and Max Weikersheimer (a cousin). There are also two letters to Wertheimer, from Paul Lowenstein and Alfred Katzenstein. The Various folder contains a Haas family tree dated 2003; a postcard to Ruth and Gunther Bechhofer; and an undated translation of a German document relating to the Jews of Laupheim.
