Heinrich and Hulda Schwab Family Collection
Scope and Content Note
The Heinrich and Hulda Schwab Family Collection contains photographs and family papers. These photographs are collected into photo albums of Heinrich and Hulda's trips around Europe in the 1920s and of their daughter, Ilse, for whom there are two albums from the 1930s. The family papers contain Hulda and Ilse's birth certificates, the Schwab's marriage certificate from 1937, and the 1938 passport of Gustav Oppenheimer, Hulda's second husband. Additionally, there are papers about Ilse's school for children with disabilities, the Martha Lloyd School in Troy, Pennsylvania, which include a brochure and correspondence between the school and the Schwab family.
The photo albums span from 1928 to 1935. Two of the albums detail the Schwab's travels throughout Western Europe, predominantly the western half of Germany. Additionally, there is a photo album that contains photographs from a winter trip in 1931 to Lermoos, Austria. There are two albums of Ilse, one of which has photos around the time of her birth in 1934, and another from 1935 which has photographs of her as a toddler. In addition to these albums, there is a small number of photographs from the 1930s of the Schwabs' extended family, including Heinrich's mother, Amalie Schwab.
