Scope and Content Note

The Altschuler and Weinberger Families Collection includes materials related to the history of these families prior to World War II as well as materials that shed light on the fate of various members of the Altschuler and Weinberger families during the Holocaust.

The collection consists of correspondence, printed materials, documents, photographs, genealogical materials such as charts and family trees, stammbuch (most likely belonging to Helen Altschuler), and a handwritten cookbook.

The bulk of the collection consists of family correspondence concerning immigration efforts as well as correspondence with immigration authorities in the United States.

Another part of the collection consists of materials depicting the fate of the Altschuler and Weinberger families during the Holocaust as well as genealogical materials including correspondence, memoirs, printed materials, documents, genealogical charts and family trees.

Biographical Note

Suse Altschuler was born in Paris in 1892. Her widowed mother, Eugenie married Guglielmo Weinberger and moved to Vienna in 1912. Suse Altschuler married her husband Max in 1913 and moved to Speyer. She had two sons, Herbert and Otto Altschuler. In 1939 Suse Altschuler and her family immigrated to the United States. Her mother Eugenie and her step father Guglielmo Weinberger remained in Vienna. Guglielmo Weinberger died in the winter if 1941. Eugenie was deported in 1943 and perished in the Holocaust.
