Folder one is comprised of correspondence, primarily letters and postcards, from [Salli] Ziemke in Danzig, then Germany,yy to his son Karl and his son’s family in New Haven, Connecticut, as well as correspondence from other relatives in Mława, Poland, to Karl Ziemke and his wife, 1939-1941. In folder two are various materials pertaining to Karl Ziemke’s dental laboratory in Danzig and in New Haven.

Biographical Note

The dentist Karl Ziemke, his wife, and their son Siegbert immigrated in 1939 from Danzig to the United States, where they settled in New Haven, Connecticut. Karl Ziemke’s father Salli (?) Ziemke, a retired employee of the Danzig Jewish community, remained in Europe; he was eventually deported to Theresienstadt, where he died in 1944.

Abstract

Correspondence includes primarily letters and postcards from [Salli] Ziemke in Danzig, then Germany, to his son Karl and his son’s family in New Haven, Connecticut, as well as correspondence from other relatives in Mława, Poland, to Karl Ziemke and his wife, 1939-1941. Also included are various materials pertaining to Karl Ziemke’s dental laboratory in Danzig and in New Haven.

A Jewish prayer book, Siddur Sephat Emeth / Roedelheim : M. Lehrberger, 1928, belonging to Karl Ziemke, as well as an issue of the Menorah journal, Winter 1940, were removed to the LBI Library.

Separated Material

A copy of the book, "Die Wiederbefestigung" by Willi Wolff and Gunther Stock was removed to the Library.
