Josephthal Family Collection

 Collection
Identifier: AR 319

Scope and Content Note

This collection brings together genealogical notes and manuscripts which Hans Josephthal (John Joseph Thal) amassed over his entire life. Among these materials are several notes and drafts from 1920s and 1930s Germany, including forms from the Gesellschaft für jüdische Familienforschung in Berlin.

The work that Thal began in Germany he continued after emigrating to the United States. A good example of this transition is the volume in the second folder, which contains both a genealogical manuscript published by Thal in 1932 in Berlin, and an addendum of additions and notes compiled in the 1970s. The collection also contains a reprint of a 19th century handwritten genealogical manuscript on the Berlin family, and a larger family tree diagram.
