Biographical Note

The Fischl family comes from Klosterneuburg near Vienna. Alois and Anna Fischl (nee Weissberger) had 2 children: Walter (born 1897), and Nelly. Alois Fischl worked as a wine merchant in Klosterneuburg. He died in 1931. Anna Fischl was born in Kolin, Czechoslovakia on May 19, 1869. Walter Fischl and his wife Emma (nee Kollmann) emigrated to the United States. Nelly Wilder, her husband Gustav Wilder and their sons Michael and Joseph escaped from Vienna on the day of the Anschluss to make their way to London. After a year in London they immigrated to the United States. Anna Fischl came to the United States with the help of her son Walter Fischl, her son-in-law Gustav Wilder, and Robert Azold. She died at the age of 91 of natural causes.
