Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of the correspondence between various members of the Falbel / Pulgram family during and after World War Two. It includes letters between Gerda Falbel née Pulgram and her husband Isaak Falbel. Additional correspondence includes letters between Karl Pulgram in Haifa and his daughter Gerda Falbel and son-in-law Isaak Falbel. Finally, the collection includes correspondence between Gerda Falbel and various other family members, including her mother Eugenie Pulgram and her sister Gise, who stayed in Vienna and were murdered in the Holocaust. The collection also includes a few loose envelopes and scraps of paper.

Biographical Note

Gerda Falbel née Pulgram (1914-2005) was married to Isaak Falbel (1906- ). Isaak left Austria for England in 1938 and was in the Kitchener Camp in England until about 1940 or 1941, after which he joined Gerda and their daughter Kitty in New York. Gerda left Vienna for New York in 1939, together with her sister-in-law Rita Falbel. Gerda's father Karl Pulgram emigrated to Haifa, while her mother Eugenie Pulgram and her sister Gise stayed in Vienna and were murdered in the Holocaust.

Abstract

Arrangement

The folders are in alphabetical order. Correspondence in folders 1 and 2 is roughly chronological. Correspondence in folder 3 is mostly undated.

Processing information

Materials were refoldered. Some of the letters in folder 2 are badly faded and fragile.
