The Walter Breslauer Collection may be viewed online.
Writings of Walter Breslauer in folder 1 are primarily about legal matters, such as his contributions in AJR Information under the heading „Law and Life“, touching on family law, estate law, refugee status and other aspects of life in Great Britain. Other publications include ‘Council Correspondence’, Aufbau, and various others.
In folder 2 and 3, the reader will also find Breslauer’s essays on international law and on questions concerning restitution for German refugees. Also included throughout the collection are articles about Jewish personalities of the time, in form of contributions to anniversaries or obituaries, as well as articles about the Jewish community in Berlin.
Folder 4 contains six handwritten letters from Rabbi Leo Baeck to Walter Breslauer, 1945-1956; they were donated to the LBI Library by Walter Breslauer’s daughter, Ilse B. Wolff in 1981. There is also a telegram from a 1958 URO staff conference to Breslauer, thanking him for his contributions.
Folder 5 is the copy of a 401 page typescript, ‘Etat der Juedischen Gemeinde Berlin fuer das Jahr 1936’ by Walter Breslauer.

Biographical Note
The lawyer Walter Breslauer, born 1890 in Berlin, was the administrative director of the Jewish community in Berlin, 1931 to 1936, and later vice-president of the Council of Jews from Germany in London, where he died in 1981.
