Biographical Note

The neuro-psychiatrist Harry M. Harter, previously Harry Hirschberg, was born in Breslau on July 6, 1899. After serving in World War I and receiving his medical degree from the University of Breslau in 1924, he opened a successful praxis in Breslau and also worked for various hospitals. In 1928, he married Leonore Goldmann from Hindenburg; their son Dieter (later Donald) was born in 1933, their daughter Daisy in 1938. In 1938, Harry M. Harter visited the United States and then went on to Cuba, where he was joined by his wife and children in February 1939. They emigrated to the United States in August 1940 and changed their family name from Hirschberg to Harter.
