Biographical / Historical

Esriel Hildesheimer (1912-1998) studied at the Frankfurt Yeshiva and at the Rabbinic Seminars in Berlin, as well as at Berlin University. He received his doctorate from the Hebrew University in 1982. He was the great-grandson of Rabbi Esriel Hildesheimer (1820-1899), and the son of the rabbi’s grandson Shalom; not to be confused with his cousin Esriel Esra Hildesheimer (1901-1998), who was the son of Meir Hildesheimer.
