Identifier: AR 25877

Scope and Content Note

The collection contains materials relating to the members of the Wilde family that are addenda to the Denise Wilde Family Collection (AR 25189). The items in this collection consist primarily of restitution correspondence, official documents such as birth and death certificates, as well as a few personal notes by Bertha Wilde and family trees.

The bulk of the collection consists of legal correspondence regarding restitution claims filed by Bertha and Herbert Wilde. Restitution documents can be found in Folders 1 and 4. Restitution correspondence is in regards to Bertha Wilde’s health complications and property losses. Herbert Wilde filed restitution for his material losses and losses relating to the termination of his dentistry practice in Berlin. Aside from restitution correspondence, the papers relating to Bertha Wilde in Folder 1 also include handwritten notes about her health, information about the Slupecki family, and personal correspondence from family members.

Folders 2 and 3 relate to the family genealogy and records. A large family tree that documents the six generations following Rabbi Michael Mendelsohn (1759-1831), supplementary trees for select family members and Alfred Wilde’s family registry (Familien-Stammbuch) are also included in the third folder. The folder “Family Records” contains documents confirming birth and death dates of individuals of the Wilde family. The certificates are not from the original dates of births or deaths, yet were acquired between 1936 and 1938. Also in this folder are two letters from the Gesamtarchiv der Juden in Deutschland that certify the German naturalization of Wolff Ekman.

Documents relating to Julian and Bertha Wilde’s immigration are also present in the collection. A detailed packing list of items belonging to Julian Wilde, along with his boat ticket departing from Genoa, Italy to Valparaiso, Chile are found in the last folder. Likewise, Bertha Wilde’s boat ticket from Lisbon, Portugal to New York and her vaccination record from the Portuguese Red Cross are also included.
