Dortmund Jewish Community Collection
Scope and Content Note
This collection contains original and photocopied correspondence, documents and clippings pertaining to Jews and the Jewish community in Dortmund, Germany.
Folder one contains photocopied materials concerning the Theodor Herzl-Club, the Zionistische Vereinigung Dortmund, and the Verein Jung-Juda. Included are documents from 1911 listing members of the the Theodor-Herzl Club board and club statutes with an accompanying cover letter from board members to the Dortmund police. From the Zionistische Vereinigung Dortmund is a 1911 announcement for an event featuring a lecture by Kurt Blumenfeld, a letter from board members notifying the Dortmund police of the upcoming event, and a note of approval from the police department. There is a 1913 notification to the police department from the Bethaus-Verein Jung-Juda and the Theodor Herzl-Club regarding a planned Chanukah celebration, in addition to a registration document for the event. Also included are member directories for the the Theodor Herzl-Club and the Verein Jung-Juda, as well as photocopies of handwritten documents regarding the Verein Jung-Juda. In folder two are correspondence (original and photocopied) and photocopied official documents from 1938 regarding the persecution of the Jews by the Gestapo in Dortmund. Folder three consists of two articles about Jewish women in Dortmund and a list of Jewish women in Dortmund from 1930-1945 compiled by Christel Botterbusch.
