Scope and Content Note

Vilma Cohn-Leven was one of 1,200 Jewish inmates of the concentration camp in Theresienstadt, who were liberated and put on a transport to Switzerland in February of 1945.

The original report is a handwritten manuscript on ten pages and includes a small map of Theresienstadt.

Also included are a typed German transcript by Ingrid Haas (2018) and two English translations by Ingrid Haas (2018) and Sylvia Irwin (2014), respectively.

Biographical Note

Wilhelmina Leven (later Vilma Cohn-Leven) was born 1901 in Solingen; she died 1971 in Zurich.

Ingrid Haas’ great-grandmother Gertrude Eichenberg was also on the train from Theresienstadt to Switzerland and, like Vilma, ended up in Les Avants.
